Three men have been arrested for allegedly robbing the public works department in Libode, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.
Captain Zamakulungisa Jozana said the men, aged between 17 and 24, were arrested in the Thabo Mbeki and Mtyu townships near Libode.
Armed robbers broke into the department’s offices on Tuesday and shot a security guard, critically injuring him.
Police recovered 28 car tyres, five car batteries, several litres of diesel and paint, a car’s fan belt, a bolt cutter and a mop which had been stolen and sold to local residents.
The trio would appear in the Libode Magistrate’s Court on Friday to face armed robbery and attempted murder charges. – Sapa
