[On KhayaFM this morning I caught a few minutes of them discussing this subject: Racism versus bad service. The discussion revolved mostly around restaurants.

I listened to 3 callers. None of them complained about whites. Some said that racism was a thing of the past and they’d last experienced it 10 years ago. One caller said racism “is out of fashion” – old history.

What they were more concerned about was going to a place and ordering something and then not getting the correct thing. The bad service irritated some of them!!

Interestingly, they reckoned that there is a perception among black waiters that black customers tip badly and ergo black waiters give black customers bad service on purpose!!!

Most interestingly, one caller reckoned that in Cape Town, the waiters are mostly Xhosa or Coloured and that if you aren’t Xhosa or Coloured you would get rubbish service!

Only one announcer said that if they went to ORANIA (Afrikaner Homeland), then there would be racism. But nobody else said anything.

They said the discussion would continue online on the Khaya FM website. But offhand I can’t find it. They said it was: www.khayafm.co.za.

We’ve had this problem in the past of not finding the KhayaFM website… but I can’t remember what it should be…

I thought it was interesting. The average black person might no longer “feel there is racism” but they forget the ANC/SACP/COSATU will continually revive the concept of racism for political gain in the future. If you think RACISM IS DEAD… you’re wrong… When those organisations need to gain from it, despite the fact that “racism” is long gone… it will be revived and used to beat us with endlessly. Jan]
