Judge Peter Gbeneweleh of Criminal Court “D” Monday sentenced Essau Kollie and Archie Williams to 10 years each in prison after jurors found them guilty of Armed Robbery last Friday.
Judge Gbeneweleh said the sentence affirmed that the state proved its case against the two men “beyond all reason doubts.”
After jurors pronounced a guilty verdict last Friday against Essau Kollie and Archie Williams, the former broke into tears telling the court that he prefers death than going to jail for 15 years, the maximum jail term for armed robbery.
Meanwhile, defense lawyers Monday took exception to the sentence and appealed to the Supreme Court.
Both men have been in prison awaiting trial since they were indicted for the crime in 2009.
