I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

The Bankers Association of Zambia (BAZ) has said Government’s economic policies being implemented have resulted in positive economic growth.
BAZ chairperson Saviour Chibiya said his association appreciated the macro-economic policies that had resulted in a decline in inflation, improvement in the balance of payments, sustainable debt, increase in international reserves and a relatively lower fiscal deficit.
Mr Chibiya said this in his submission to a parliamentary watchdog committee estimates chaired by Bweengwa MP Highvie Hamududu in reaction to the 2011 national Budget.
“We are encouraged by such micro-economic reforms as liberalisation and privatisation of the economy as well as regulation and legal reforms being undertaken,” Mr Chibiya said.
He said the Government could attain the macro-economic targets of 6.4 per cent Gross Domestic Product (GDP), seven per cent inflation, stable exchange rate and four months of import cover for as long as the State maintained fiscal discipline.
He said such action would be necessary to create employment for Zambia to effectively reduce the high poverty levels.
He urged the Government to keep up the momentum on infrastructure development through specific investment in infrastructure, health and education.
“The BAZ will work with the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) in expediting the financial sector reforms. Government’s plan to enhance its local revenue collection mechanisms is welcome but there is need to consider some of the challenges this might pose for instance the standard rating of fee based bank services,” Mr Chibiya noted.
BAZ urged the Government to quickly implement measures such as the public expenditure management and public service reforms aimed at efficient management of the expenditure side of the Budget.
And Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) has appealed Government to allow traders and farmers export directly to foreign buyers.
ZAM president Chance Kabaghe submitted to a Parliamentary watchdog committee on estimates yesterday that the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zimbabwe, Malawi and Angola were ready markets for the maize and therefore relaxing the rules to facilitate such transactions would be a solution.
He said Government was still looking for a market for maize which if not handled properly could prove disastrous for the bumper harvest.
“Our expectation is that millers be engaged and promote value added activities and subsequently export valued added products instead of exporting maize in its primary form,” Mr Kabaghe who was with Millers Association of Zambia chairperson Peter Cottan submitted.
He was saddened that Zambia still did not consider the manufacturing sector as being key to the economic growth of the country.
And Mr Cottan said Government needed to formulate urgent policies that would enable traders and farmers export maize directly to neighbouring countries as Zambia readies for the next harvest.
