South Africa: Cape Residents Address Crime

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

Neighbourhood watch groups from around Cape Town have joined forces to co-ordinate a massive vigil aimed at addressing crime.

The organisers hope the hour-long event, to be held on Tuesday, will draw nearly 1 000 Capetonians, fed up with crime featuring in their daily lives, to take part in the peaceful gathering at the foot of Table Mountain.

Dubbed Operation Blue Knight, it will include members of the police, SA National Defence Force, SANParks, city traffic and metro police and emergency services, who will be led in prayers for peace and also pay tribute to victims of crime.

Lewis Lynch, a Tamboerskloof neighbourhood watch member, said yesterday the evening would be used to highlight the high crime rate and related fatalities in the country.

The event will be held on the anniversary of the brutal murder of Bergvliet resident Jane van Zyl two years ago.

Van Zyl was about to drive into her driveway when she was shot in the head by robbers, who then made off with her handbag.

Lynch said that although Van Zyl’s murder had been a catalyst for the event, it was also important for others who had been less affected by crime to attend.

“Even those who have never been affected by crime directly are impacted indirectly by the unease and sometimes paralysing fear of the possibility of becoming a victim,” he said.

JP Smith, mayoral committee member for safety and security in the city, confirmed that he would attend.

“They make a valuable contribution to community policing and we must support them,” he said of the neighbourhood watch groups.

The gathering will be held on Tafelberg Road, just about a kilometre from the Lower Cable Station, from about 6pm to 7.30pm.

Lynch said that instead of candles being lit during the event, torches would be used to avoid “an accidental fire”.

“We are certainly hoping for a very big crowd, added to the security and law enforcement personnel who will be there. We are fed up with crime ruining our lives.”
