[In this story, due to the rain, they now say that some of the cheap housing built for blacks is now falling apart and some are being swallowed by sink holes.
It is a known fact that the quality of workmanship on some of these cheap houses (built by blacks for blacks) is truly atrocious. In some cases, a bit of rain causes the houses to actually fall apart because the cement mixture was so poor.
So what is not clear in this story is how much of this is due to them building the houses in a bad place where sink holes occur, or how much is due to bad workmanship. For example, how sound are these foundations? When I look at some of these photos it appears to me these homes don’t have proper foundations.
I can’t help wondering how long these ANC-built houses will actually last? Jan]
In the photo you can see the big cracks in the house.
Look at the plastering and the colour of the walls. It looks as if the houses are made out of mud rather than bricks and cement as they are supposed to be.
Look at the gap between the door frame and the wall – so big that a man can put his hand in the crack.
