Cooling their stolen goods proved the wrong approach for two burglars who were arrested after being found with a stolen refrigerator filled with jewellery and appliances at the weekend.
Police Inspector Solomon Mbele said the men were tracked by officers from the Pinetown police station and the metro police dog unit after they fled from the crime scene, lugging the refrigerator along.
“Two men, both in their twenties, broke into a house at Argyll Road, in Pinetown … They took jewellery, clothing and electrical appliances and loaded the goods into a refrigerator.”
Mbele said the men apparently carried the refrigerator from the house into nearby bush.
The police were called and they searched the bush.
“Metro police dog Scooby followed the suspects’ trail for about 2km before the suspects were cornered with the refrigerator,” Mbele said.
He said the stolen items were recovered and the two men were arrested in connection with the theft.
They are to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.
