Seventy-eight people were arrested in Katlehong during weekend stop and search operations, Gauteng police said on Monday.
Captain Mega Ndobe said eight people were arrested for assault, four for malicious damage to property, two for possession of stolen property and two for rape.
Another four were arrested for theft and four for armed robbery and robbery.
Other offences for which people were arrested included driving under the influence of alcohol, intimidation, fraud, shoplifting and illegal gambling.
At 4am on Monday in Moleleki Extension 2, two men, aged 18 and 26, were arrested at a stop and search operation for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
While they were being held there a 51-year-old man came and said he had been robbed of R450 cash by the men.
The cash was found on the men and they were arrested for armed robbery as well.
Police also recovered two stolen cars and some car parts during the stop and search operations, Ndobe said. – Sapa
