Two men, one armed with a revolver, robbed the municipal offices in Jan Kempdorp of an undisclosed amount of money on Wednesday.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Superintendent Elias Mbanyana said the men, wearing balaclavas, entered the offices in the town north of Kimberley around 7.45am.
Two cashiers were forced into a safe room and locked inside during the incident.
“Police at Jan Kempdorp are investigating a case of armed robbery and nobody has been arrested so far,” Mbanyana said.
One of the robbers was described as tall, of slender build, wearing a blue overall jacket, a pair of grey trousers and a balaclava. The second robber was short, also slenderly built, wearing a green jersey, brown trousers and a balaclava.
They wore gloves.
Mbanyana urged the public not to attempt to arrest the men but to inform the nearest police station should they be seen. – Sapa
