Two police officers were shot and injured during a gun battle on Louis Botha Avenue in the Johannesburg suburb of Orange Grove on Friday, police said.
Police spokesperson Govindsamy Mariemuthoo said the police from the Hillbrow crime prevention unit had been called to a house robbery on Osborne Road when an unknown number of gunmen opened fire.
The shoot-out happened outside a house behind the Victory Theatre.
Mariemuthoo said although all of the gunmen managed to get away, the police shot one of them.
The two injured policemen have been taken to hospital. – Sapa
