I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

[I am glad to see that people care less and less about the lives of these stupid rotten criminals. Jan]
By Luntu Lamani
The reported increase in the number of suspects killed by police in the line of duty is a cause for concern for the Independent Complaints Directorate.
According to ICD spokesperson Dikeledi Phiri, police are using maximum force to arrest criminals when it’s not necessary.
Though national police spokesperson Director Selby Bokaba agrees, the purported attack on police might be the result of police using excessive force to apprehend criminals.
“We do not condone these actions, but people need to understand that we are under siege,” he said.
IOL has asked readers: “Should more attention be given to the number of suspects who are killed by police?”
Of the 410 readers who responded, 32 percent (132 votes) said Yes, and 51 percent (208 votes) said No, while 17 percent (70 votes) said Who cares.

I think the people that voted no have missed the plot totally. The key word being “SUSPECTED” criminals, and they have not been found guilty. What happened to INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. Those that voted NO should check up on the stats regarding the number of wrongful convictions in SA and then post silly comments. [ Edited by IOL ]

Unhappy Citizen: I see your point BUT saying no smoke without fire is wrong!! About a year ago, driving past Houghton golf course and a car flashed me from behind, I ignored it and carried on driving, they carried on flashing and to cut a long story short, I was forced to stop when the car overtook me, stopped and 2 armed men got out the car. Turns out they were plainclothes cops. Now if I had carried on driving away I would have got shot and I was doing nothing wrong!! They did not Identify themselves, not blue light in the car, nothing! No smoke without fire you say unless my only crime was to be a white male in an relatively expensive car??
JR:
If you don’t like being shot at by police, then don’t become a suspect.
Phred:
More attention should be given to the number of police killed by suspects.

LL, maybe you are right my comments below are driven by emotions more than facts. However, having been a victim of crime, its difficult to exclude your emotions on issues relating to crime. Criminals today after commiting gruesome murders are said to have a right to be represented by a state Attorney, who pays for the Attorney, Taxpayers. As a complainant you pay your own private Attorney, is that fair. Lets face it our judiciary system is generally soft on criminals perhaps more than any other country in the world, hence crime statistics are rocket high. SAPS alone without the support of an effective judiciary sysytem will never win the battle agains crime. They arrest the same criminal for similar offences because they are let scotch free by the legal system, on account of lack of evidence or unreliable witnesses etc.

No no no – if someone is shooting at me I’m sure as hell gonna shoot back! Suspects don’t shoot warning shots into the air why should the cops!

Mpume Shabalala – “you pull a trigger when the suspect is also pulling a trigger” – Mpume, you make me laugh uyazi… If you were a police man and you are trying to nab a suspect, a suspect reaches out for a gun… start pointing at you… and then pulls the trigger… What would you do? My answer to that you’d do nothing because you’d be dead. [ Edited by IOL ]
Mpume Shabalala:
Yes they have to pay more attention, the question is “when do you pull a trigger” we know that police are protecting themselves but its a matter of knowing when to pull a trigger. I also think that police need to be trained properly in terms of procedures to follow before shooting. They are so many suspect who have died for nothing maybe who have been frammed. We’ve seen when people are marching and they being shot for nothing. Safe and Security Department have to come up with a proper strategic planning to reduce crime in S.A. before 2010.
Mark:
What I am concerned about is the number of police who are shot by suspects? There is abosolutely no respect for authority in this country, that is, in part, why crime goes unabated. I am far more concerned about police getting shot than some fleeing thug who gets shot in the back.
sabz@ctn:
If its not legal it must be,Police must have a right to shoot,on duty,Its really painful when an officer saving community and working for his family is shot by stupid careless criminal becoz he has to fire warning shots, criminals get away with murder, remember Police are trained to shoot [ Edited by IOL ]
