Cape Town – Cape Talk radio says Cape Town Mayor Helen Zille was jeered off the stage when she tried to address a union-organised anti-drug meeting in the city hall on Wednesday.
It said municipal workers’ shop stewards attending the meeting, organised by the Congress of SA Trade Unions, initially threatened to walk out if Zille spoke.
However, Cosatu leaders intervened and they stayed.
But when Zille began speaking, other shop stewards began shouting and stamping their feet, and Zille, unable to make herself heard, left.
The SA Municipal Workers’ Union is in dispute with the city over staff restructuring plans.
