A 21-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly killing his 25-year-old girlfriend near Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
Spokesperson Superintendent Jay Naicker said the body of Lamulile Mbambo was found under a tree alongside a gravel road in the Mbamba Reserve near Nkandla on Monday morning.
Naicker said her family became concerned on Sunday night at her failure to return home and spent the night searching for her.
Mbambo’s sister, Ncanisile, found her body at 7am. She had been shot.

Naicker said police determined that Mbambo had been shot and her body was then dragged for 100 metres. He said police believe that the woman was raped after being shot.
Naciker said the family had contacted the boyfriend, but he told them that he was with Mbambo in Eshowe, about 50 kilometres from the murder scene.
Mbambo’s watch and cellphone were found in his possession.
