A man has been arrested after allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl near Dutywa, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.
Captain Lingsile Magama said the girl was raped while on her way home from a nearby shop on Monday afternoon.
“She had been crossing the Ezifama river and while she was heading home in Ezifama squatter camp, she was approached by a knife-wielding man.
“He then threatened her and raped her near the river,” said Magama.
The girl’s family reported the matter to the police and the man was arrested on Tuesday morning.
“He was arrested at his house in Mputi village near Dutywa,” said Magama.
The 36-year-old is expected to appear in the Dutywa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. – Sapa
