I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

Springbok coach Jake White has requested an urgent meeting with President Thabo Mbeki over political intervention in rugby.

Presidential spokesperson Mukoni Ratshitanga confirmed on Monday that White would pay Mbeki a “courtesy call” in Cape Town on Friday. He stressed that it was not an official meeting.

The dramatic move comes as White faces calls for his head over transformation and an investigation into his alleged nightclub altercation with a rugby journalist.

And the SA Rugby Union is bracing itself for a tough session in Parliament on Tuesday, when the three presidents and 14 provincial chief executives will appear before the sports portfolio committee over representivity in rugby and the Springbok team.

Rugby sources said White wanted to meet Mbeki to intervene over “political interference” in rugby. He is said to be “cracking under the strain” of mounting controversies in rugby and could not be reached for comment on Sunday.

Springbok media manager Vusi Kama said he knew nothing about a meeting with Mbeki.

Meanwhile SA Rugby managing director Jonathan Stones said on Sunday that an investigation would start as soon as possible into White’s alleged role in an incident that led to Die Son rugby writer Adnaan Mohamed being assaulted by a man who had allegedly been in White’s company earlier at the News Cafe in Sandton on Thursday night.

White faces questioning by police and being called as a potential court witness over the incident.

Saru president Oregan Hoskins promised that the investigation would be as thorough as possible.

Mohamed has consulted News24.com lawyers and a doctor and on Saturday he laid charges of assault against his alleged attacker, former Mamelodi Sundowns physiotherapist Colin Francke.

Mohamed said in an affidavit that Francke had been in the company of journalists and White. He alleges that the assault was linked to White’s earlier hostility towards him over a story in his newspaper in April.

Hoskins confirmed that if White was found guilty of bringing South African rugby into disrepute, he could be fired.
