Relatives of a 17-month-old boy murdered two weeks ago are reeling in shock at post-mortem findings that his jaw was broken, ribs were crushed and an attempt made to smother him.
Rukeyah Davids found her son, Tougeed, injured in their home in Hanover Park on March 6.
She took him to hospital, but he died on the way, the child’s grandmother, Zuleigha Davids, said on Tuesday.

“My daughter is devastated … She loved her son.”
A man had been arrested two days after Tougeed died and had appeared in the Wynberg magistrate’s court, Davids sen said.
“We didn’t go to court because we couldn’t face him. But we know he was denied bail.”
A clerk at the Wynberg magistrate’s court was unable to track down the man’s charge sheet, but said he was expected to appear in court again later this month.
