Jan] China launches economic zone in Zambia LUSAKA, Zambia, Feb. 5 (UPI) — China has launched an economic and trade cooperation zone with Zambia, its first ever with an African country, China’s president said. Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Zambian President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa jointly inaugurated the Zambia-China Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone in Lusaka, Zambia’s capital. The zone’s establishment is part of China’s efforts to fulfill its earlier promises to boost full-fledged cooperation with African nations, the Xinhua news agency reported. At a Beijing summit on China-Africa cooperation in November, Hu said China would strengthen its cooperation with Africa through eight measures, including three to five trade and economic cooperation zones in Africa by 2009.
