[Here is another quite amazing example of “African Ingenuity” and just general lawlessness and theft.

I received this email from a friend. It was doing the rounds. The attendant caption was: “How the containers suddenly disappear from the cargo ships in Luanda…”

The photos don’t seem to be taken in a harbour. I wondered if the photos might just represent how they normally unload the containers – but that can’t be because the ships would berth, and then you would not need boats to go next to them.

So it definitely appears as if these photos show how containers are being stolen off of ships off the African coast. I would suspect that the ships themselves have cranes and that is how these containers then get on to the boats. But how they get them off must be quite another matter.

Quite shocking hey? Well, you’ve heard of Piracy off the African coast, so this really isn’t too much of a surprise. Jan]
