Jan] Cape Town – A murder suspect “cried with anger and shock” while he “assaulted” a woman he’d raped when he heard that she was HIV-positive. This shocking testimony came to light in the High Court on Monday in the case against Ncedile Ntumbukane and Vuyelwa Dlova. The two are accused of murdering Lorna Mlofane of the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) on December 13, 2003. Ntumbukane and Dlova pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. Ntumbukane also denied raping Mlofane at a shebeen in Town Two, Khayelitsha, earlier that night. Amos Zono, a close friend of Ntumbukane, testified that they had been drinking at the shebeen that night. He went outside where he saw Ntumbukane embracing the “much older and crying” Mlofane. “I asked him what was going on, after which he told me that he and Lorna had had sex in a toilet on the premises. He said she was his girlfriend.” Zono said he later saw “Ncedile assaulting the still-crying Lorna in the dimly lit street in front of the shebeen. He hit her with the fist and kicked her in the stomach several times. She fell to the ground every time but got up again. “Many people gathered round and tried to stop him but he continued beating her up. “He was crying with anger and shock. I grabbed him at one stage and asked him what was going on. He said he was angry because Lorna had disclosed her HIV status to him only after they had had sex.” Zono said Mlofane was bleeding a lot at this stage. He went to call Ntumbukane’s older brother. The brother took Ntumbukane home where he still carried on crying. Zono said he heard Dlovo tell the deceased: “You bitch, you are spreading Aids.” An ambulance came to pick up Mlofane shortly after.
