[These hideous photos have been doing the rounds, but I’m not sure what to make of them. Here we have a mystery & I wonder if anyone can help me get to the bottom of this.

I’m not sure exactly of the source and origin of these photos. Some Readers spotted them on Ogrish.com. At Ogrish, they stated the original source was Rense.com – but gave no exact URL. I did a search of Rense.com – but couldn’t find them. (Maybe I didn’t search properly?)

I have seen these photos before, and they are definitely quite recent. They were being sent around by email here in South Africa. But when I saw these photos, they were accompanied by a long story about people “taking rugby too seriously”. The accompanying story seemed to indicate that some white rugby supporters had got into a fight about rugby and someone got dragged behind a car.

The story did seem highly improbable and so I ignored it.

I see it is being posted around as a car hijack in Johannesburg, S.Africa. I really can’t confirm or deny this. What is strange, is that if such a horrific event took place, why we didn’t hear ANYTHING about it on either websites, nor any newspapers or even radio shows. I’m talking about the independent newspapers and radios which might have run such a thing – and not the ANC mouthpiece – the SABC. (Unless, the secret censorship here is so good that even a juicy thing like this didn’t make it into the news???)

So I have come across nothing – not even a rumour – to confirm that this actually took place.

I’m going to post the photos below, along with the original description & link from Ogrish.com.

I did wonder if, by studying these photos, one could see some indication of whether they really come from S.Africa. I am suspicious that there are no names, nor details of the actual incident – dates, place names, etc. So it is rather suspicious. Jan]

Car Jacked and Tied Behind own Car in South Africa

The victim was car jacked in Johannesburg, South Africa, the murder capital of the world. Robbers beat him and then tied him down and dragged him behind his own BMW until the police pulled them over and arrested the suspects. The victim lived to tell his story, and is recovering slowly at our local hospital.

While police crime statistics show that there were 21 683 murders in South Africa in the year 2000, the Medical Research Council puts the figure at 32 482. The MRC’ s estimate is close to the figure from the Department of Home Affairs, which is 30 068. This is a third more murders than reported by the SAPS, a discrepancy of more than 10 000 murders.
So, while the Democratic Alliance leaflet “Fight Crime” puts the average daily murder rate in South Africa at 55 murders every day, the Medical Research Council’s statistics reveal that 89 murders are committed, on average, every day in South Africa.
