It appears to me, sometimes, international organisations and the Americans tip our Police off, and then they have no choice but to arrest the criminals. But, look at how the amount of drugs passing through South Africa is hitting all time highs. The drug TIK, is having an unbelievable effect on the Cape Flats mainly among Coloured teenagers. Jan] Johannesburg – A full 45 tons of mandrax valued at between R1.2bn and R2bn will be destroyed in an environmentally friendly manner in Springs on Thursday. Makhosini Nkosi, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), said in Pretoria on Wednesday it was the biggest consignments of mandrax that had ever been confiscated anywhere in the world. NPA officials confiscated the two consignments of mandrax at Durban harbour in August and September last year. Waybills showed that the mandrax powder was on its way from China to Mozambique and Namibia. The addresses it was destined for in the two neighbouring countries were fictitious, Nkosi said. Converted This aroused suspicion that the powder would have been converted into tablets in South Africa. It is believed that South Africa is one of top countries worldwide when it comes to mandrax use. Nkosi said the powder had been stored in drums marked as roof-sealing paint. The NPA had followed up a tip about the consignment and found mandrax powder in the drums. No one has been arrested for the illegal consignment yet, but NPA members in Durban and Johannesburg are continuing the investigation. Masked workers at the NPA’s offices packed the hundreds of green drums into four giant containers on Wednesday so that they could be destroyed on Thursday. Source: News24.Com |
