[Yesterday”s burst water pipe caused 80 million litres of water to be lost! A water pipe, over 1 metre in diameter burst yesterday flooding 100 homes. People likened it to a “tsunami”… Water was gushing down the streets like a river. Apparently, some people are going to sue the town council – or try to. I hope they sue their butts off. I did mention some time back, that I knew someone who worked for Rand Water Board years ago, who inspected the 3 metre pipes supplying Johannesburg. He said they were in a dreadful state – and that was 10 years ago. I also mentioned water bursts in my neighbourhood – small ones – but in the one case, the water ran for 3 weeks before they fixed it. Yep… the infrastructure is slowly going down… Recently… TV News reports said… Blacks are illegally inhabiting multi-storey buildings in Johannesburg city centre… then they illegally hook up electricity… and then… these buildings catch fire. Several such buildings were completely damaged recently. Now… thanks to the Blacks… they are completely useless hulks which will have to be destroyed and rebuilt! Hurray! Jan] Johannesburg – Water supply has been restored to all affected areas in the south and west of Johannesburg following the flooding caused by a pipe burst in Meredale on Tuesday. “Water supplies have been restored to area including Meredale, Naturena, Florida, Constantiakloof and Weltevreden,” said Rand Water spokesperson Yolisa Tyantsi. “If however, any areas are experiencing problems, they must report it to our call centre so we are able to follow-up.” About 100 houses in Meredale were damaged by water, two of them seriously. Ten people had to sleep in a hotel overnight. Tyantsi said mopping up operations were underway in the area on Wednesday. “A cleaning up campaign is on the rollout. From the social perspective, we are in the process of getting counsellors to counsel people in area. Assessors are looking at the damages and the environmental impact of the incident.” Cleaners from Rand Water were assisting in the mopping up operations, while the company had contracted a company to assist affected home owners clean up. “Cleaners are also cleaning up the rubble on the roads.” Tyantsi said assessments were being conducted by risk management and engineers regarding the two houses which were “extensively damaged.” Total damage caused had not yet been quantified.
