How violent crime sneaks up on SA businesses

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

How violent crime sneaks up on SA businesses

[Some shocking stuff in here showing how Crime is now a Profession and how it works in S.Africa. Jan]

It was a “tragic flaw” that most businesses did not take violent crime seriously until they had been targeted by armed robbers, the Consumer Goods Council of South Africa (CGCSA) has found in a recent study.

It revealed that violent crime had become a “profession”, with significant planning and co-operation, said CGCSA crime prevention programme director Michael Broughton.

“Store owners neglect this at their peril,” he warned.

The study also showed an increase in gang activities and an increase in the average size of gangs from three to nine, with as many as 20 members in certain cases, Broughton said.

The CGSA has advised shop owners to make their properties less vulnerable to criminals by introducing a more open layout, installing closed-circuit television cameras, providing security and ensuring staff commitment to security.

The higher the risk of being caught, the lower the likelihood of an offence being committed, said crime prevention programme chairman Doug Smollan.

He further suggested that retailers use irregular banking patterns, and minimise the amount of cash they kept on their premises.

The study found that armed robberies cost more than R15-million in 2004.

At the moment crimes seemed to occur mainly between Tuesdays and Thursday – although the highest number took place on Sundays – and mainly from 11am to noon and 6pm to 8pm, according to the CGCSA.

Worst hit were the “financially developed” provinces of Gauteng, the Western Cape and Kwazulu-Natal, with cash and high-value goods targeted most often, it added, cautioning dealers in commodities such as cellphone products and electronic goods to implement extra security measures. – Sapa
