[Normally when justice is done in South Africa, it is done by accident – and virtually never involves a court of law. In this case, a hijacker was shot dead by the Police. To me, this is cause for rejoicing. Jan] A man was shot dead and another arrested in a shoot-out with police near William Nicol Drive in Craighall Park shortly after a hijacking on Monday, Johannesburg police said. Police Captain Schalk Bornman said police spotted the hijacked vehicle, a white Toyota Corolla, shortly after the incident in Craighall Park, and gave chase. “A shooting ensued between the suspects and police and the suspects vehicle lost control and collided against a lamp pole.” Bornman said the driver was fatally wounded in the back and died at the scene. The passenger was arrested by the police. He sustained slight injuries and was admitted to hospital for treatment before being detained at a police holding cell. The driver and the suspect are between the ages of 20 and 25. A 9mm pistol with the serial numbers filed off, a revolver, and the vehicle were seized.
