Jan] Two people were shot and injured when around 15 armed robbers held up staff at various shops in a Boksburg shopping centre, taking cash, cellphones and wallets around closing time on Tuesday. East Rand police Superintendent Andy Pieke said on Wednesday that a 40-year-old security guard at Atlasville shopping centre had suffered injuries to the head and stomach and was taken to hospital in a serious condition. Another man was shot in the hand, he said. The robbers used an “old box shaped green Toyota Corolla and a blue green Volkswagen Golf” as getaway cars. Shortly afterwards, in nearby Beyers Park, hijackers shot a man in the stomach as he opened the gate to his home for his 22-year-old son. Pieke said they made off with the son’s car, which was later found abandoned. The father was rushed to hospital in a critical condition. “The East Rand hijacking task team will investigate, ” Pieke said. – Sapa Source: Independent Online (IOL) |
