Jan] By David Matsena A racehorse died after allegedly being sexually molested and brutalised by a stable hand at De Deur, south of Johannesburg, at the weekend. A man has been arrested and will appear in the Vereeniging magistrate’s court on Tuesday on charges of bestiality. Police said Royal Dara bled profusely and died in their presence on Saturday evening. The animal belonged to trainer Tanse Leisher. ‘She won six national races’ “One of my employees called and told me that they had found the suspect at the scene. “Royal Dara was a very good horse. She won six national races, in Bloemfontein, Turffontein, Durban, Germiston, Scottsville and Vaal respectively. I am feeling very sad,” Leisher said. “I think animals have to be given fair treatment and the protection that they deserve. Organisations such as the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) must stand up and see to it that this type of incident does not happen again.” He added he wanted to see justice done. ‘Decided to insert the broomstick inside her’ “I have substantial evidence regarding the case because the suspect was caught right at the scene.” Police spokesperson Melanie Britz said that when police officers arrived at the scene they found a broomstick projecting from the horse. “Apparently after finishing raping the horse, the man decided to insert the broomstick inside her,” she said.
