Police investigating a “foul smell” found a 27-year-old man cooped up in his Soshanguve room on Monday night with the body of his girlfriend, whom he allegedly stabbed to death three days before. The victim, 22, visited her boyfriend at his family home in Block X on Saturday. That evening, the couple were heard quarrelling heatedly in his room, “followed by silence”, Pretoria police said in a statement. The man’s room is separate from the rest of the house. On Monday evening, his mother noticed a foul smell coming from the room and called the police. Investigators found the woman’s body, with a stab wound to the chest, in the man’s bed. The murder weapon, a knife, was found in the room, and the man was arrested. He would appear in the Soshanguve magistrate’s court on Thursday.
