Of Racial Quotas, Fighting or Running

SubTitle: Answering Readers Questions about last week’s article: “The Subtle War”

Last week’s article, on Etherzone, entitled <a href=The”>http://www.etherzone.com/2002/lamp070802.shtm…Subtle War elicited a number of reader questions which I welcome because people outside Africa really know very little about it – and that includes African Americans. We whites in Africa have been drowned out by the Liberal media. Very few people outside of Africa are able to truly grasp our opinions and why we say the things we say. What many people do not realise is that our analysis of Africa, and the blacks, is much deeper than they think. Our views are based on living here in Africa for hundreds of years. Remember too, we always were a minority, surrounded by a majority of blacks. We get to see blacks in all their aspects, on their native turf. We are not watching transplanted blacks, like African Americans, who have lost their language and culture. Let me say that African Americans actually benefited by losing their language and culture. We are dealing with blacks that are much the same as they were hundreds of years ago. We see many of them living in a way which is hardly different to how our forefathers found them here.

Let us consider for example, the highly explosive subject of Black intelligence. I received this e-mail from an Asian (Chinese?) gentleman in the USA who works there as an engineer. He write: “I have read your paper: The Subtle War In your paper you mention that the government requires the company to meet a racial quota that 80% of employees should be black at all levels. Is this also applied to SA government? I do not think this is possible, especially, in the engineering/technical area and this will ruin the whole company development and world competition. In this country, USA, I have worked as an engineer in a few companies I have seen a few African engineers in engineering/technical departments. How can the company survive with such a percentage of racial quotas?”

One thing I was not sure of in this gentleman’s question was what he thought of African engineers. He did not say so openly, but I wondered if he believed these people to have substandard capabilities.

In answer to his question, I will say that the racial quotas are being aimed for at all levels of business and government. They are not able to just throw out all whites and replace them with blacks, but they are making it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to hire whites for certain types of jobs. They only hire whites if they have exhausted their search for black (and non-white) candidates in general. Note, this has proven to be a bit of a boon for the Indian community in South Africa. Indians now are actually over represented in all levels of government, military, police and even business. Indians are very bright and very capable, and they did well even in the days of Apartheid with the rules against them. Nowadays, they really fly up the ranks.

The Asian gentleman’s question is actually very important and strikes at the heart of an argument many of us whites have. We have a lot of technical ability, and we are firmly convinced that these racial quotas will severely damage our economy. It will totally undermine our ability to compete with Asia, Europe and North America. As it is, we are at a disadvantage in terms of distance from main markets, lack of infrastructure, etc. To have racial quotas, especially in technical fields, verges on madness, but that is our government policy.

What happens in reality is that whites are often retrenched from government departments, and then some years later they are hired back as independent consultants. It often happens that the blacks now officially occupy the new positions, but the white consultants do the actual work. So now the job costs more than twice as much as it cost before, because the black is paid a salary, and the white consultant is paid even more.

I have heard people debate the issue of black intelligence a lot, and one finds these American academics who say that black intelligence is really the same as that of whites except they weren’t given a chance. One could write an entire book on this subject. Suffice it to say, academic theory aside, you would be most hard-pressed to find even white/Asian liberals anywhere in Africa who would say that black intelligence matches that of whites/Asians. I have taken liberal whites aside and asked them: “Do you really believe blacks match us in intelligence?” And more than 90% of the time that person will concede, from practical experience, that there is no way blacks are equal to us in intelligence. And they will say so based on their lifetime’s experience in Africa.

This does not mean that all blacks are backward. But if one looks at the many studies done of black intelligence, you will see that about 10% of blacks can match whites/Asians one for one. But about 90% of them cannot. These same studies show that Asians of course, have higher intelligence than whites. Intelligence thus drives the fate of nations, and it is easy to see how Japan, with no natural resources, can have the 2^nd strongest economy in the world, while Africa, with the most natural resources on the planet remains a hell-hole. It all boils down to one thing alone: Intelligence.

This is why you will hear me say that money alone cannot solve the continent’s problems. Colonialism was actually the best solution because it brought skilled people into Africa, and even small numbers of them have an affect out of all proportion to their numbers.

If one studies African history, you will definitely see a pattern showing that as more whites came to certain countries they prospered. When those whites left those countries fell apart. This is why South Africa is unique. It has the greatest number of whites and Asians in its population of any African country. About 70 years ago, whites made up 25% of the population of South Africa. You will not find that percentage anywhere in any African country. Is it any wonder that South Africa was the only African country to ever become a First World nation (for a while)?

The Asian gentleman, who asked the question, obviously hints that he does not think much of black engineering skills. I have been in computers for over 20 years. I worked with black programmers as far back as 1985 when some companies were already trying to put blacks on the fast track upwards. (Yes, that really happened). I worked for a very big bank, which wanted to push blacks high up into the ranks during Apartheid. It wanted to get them there so that when blacks ran the country, that it would have a head start on these racial quotas. So it took any promising blacks and created a special fast-track program for their development. They were assigned personal mentors, who were relatively high-ranking whites. If the black person had any problem, and I mean any problem, even personal problems, then he could ask his mentor for advice or help. I worked with some black programmers who got this special treatment (which did not seem to make much difference to their performance).

I was always fascinated by black intelligence, and over the years whenever I had a chance to work with blacks in computers I watched them with fascination. The first thing I saw was that blacks are great at learning and remembering things. But when faced with a new problem (which is what computers, and life, is pretty much about!!), they really struggled to come up with new, original and creative solutions.

Over the years, I have spoken to many white programmers and we have compared notes on our experiences with blacks in computers. They agree with me that the very best black programmers are mediocre at best, by our standards. I have sat with black programmers and solved bugs in their code and watched how they go about solving the problems they run in to. It is highly instructive.

My personal experiences have led me to believe that blacks struggle tremendously with technical subjects. Perhaps of course, it is not so much a question of intelligence as it is of aptitude. People who are very musical and artistic are often weak on maths. But it is mathematical and logical skills, which dominate industry, science and our civilisation as a whole. Blacks dominate the arts and also sport. But it is mathematical and logical skills, which build countries.

I am convinced that when it comes to technical matters that no amount of tutoring can make up for what is a genetic problem which none of us have control over. People were always saying we were racist for showing school results by race, but when Americans did so last year (in the state of Oregon I think), they found that on American soil they were experiencing the same problems as here in Africa.

One thing, which people never mention, is that African Americans are not “pure blacks”. They are something of a hybrid, and so African Americans are actually smarter than native blacks in Africa.

I once heard a most fascinating thing from a psychologist, a liberal Jewish one I might add. She said that she had black people coming to her complaining that due to Affirmative Action they were in jobs, which demanded more of them than they were capable of. These blacks were actually experiencing stress and depression as a result. They now need regular counselling in order to cope!

Over the years I have had a lot of people outside Africa write to me saying one of two things: (a) Why don’t all white people just leave Africa? (b) Why don’t you fight and get a country for yourself and do your own thing?

Americans, black and white alike, often write to me, telling me that we whites should leave Africa, but that is easier said than done. It is actually impractical when you look at it on a large scale.

Consider Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) for example. We were a British colony with 250,000 whites. When the war ended, and Mugabe got in, the vast majority of us did not want to live under his rule. There was vague talk from Britain and the USA about possibly helping whites to get out – but nothing was ever done. We were all left to our own resources. Britain only allowed whites into Britain who could prove that their father or mother was born in Britain. My parents had lived in Rhodesia much of their lives, but because they came from South Africa, I could never go to Britain. 66% of white Rhodesians left Zimbabwe between 1981 and 1985. Most of us could not get into any country other than South Africa. The lucky few made it to the USA, Australia or elsewhere.

My question is this: If the USA and Britain could not help whites to get away from that maniac Mugabe back then, then why would they help us now, here in South Africa, where things are better than in Zimbabwe? Also, if they could not solve the problem of getting 250,000 whites out of Africa then how are they going to get 4.2 million whites out of South Africa? Furthermore, who, in this liberal day and age, wants those “racist white South Africans” in their society anyway?

Most of us have tried to leave Africa at one time or another. The problem is, and here is the irony, that it is far easier for blacks to flee from Africa than for whites to do the same. Blacks can get into almost any country on earth as refugees. Whites on the other hand, do everything by the book. We go to embassies; we apply for immigration legally, etc. It is then that you discover how picky the USA or Australia really are (favourite destinations for those of us who want to leave). A lot of whites from Africa have gone to Canada merely because it is easier to get in there than the USA.

A very large number of whites do not have the skills, qualifications or money to go anywhere outside of Africa. Note, we are a lot poorer than you may think. Our money is worth only a fraction of what yours is. Often, our prices are much lower, than yours. For example, a person who is a multi-millionaire in Zimbabwe, might, upon selling his assets and converting them to US Dollars, find that he can hardly buy a house in the USA. Even if you can sell your assets and move, that will mean nothing if you can’t get a job on the other side. Unlike the blacks that line up for handouts, we are used to paying our way and working for what we have. Most African whites do not qualify to be admitted into Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA or Britain.

This weekend I went driving around looking for white squatters and came upon many down-and-out whites right here who can barely make a living, and who live in caravans and tents. How will they leave?

There are whites who have been trying desperately to get into the USA as political refugees. I believe one Zimbabwean family did manage it. I heard of some South African farmers who have been fighting a legal battle for years in the USA for the same – but so far they have been unsuccessful.

Let it be said that probably 90% of those who have the money and skills to leave, have already left. It is probable that almost 1 million white South Africans have already left. Those who are left are the trapped ones. The same is true for Zimbabwe and also for about 200,000 whites in Namibia.

I believe the remaining whites would only be allowed out if conditions were to deteriorate into outright war or something of that nature. In my book, I said that I believed, the evacuation of 4.2 million whites from South Africa would not happen – ever. I believe instead, that from a practical point of view, if there were serious troubles, like in Zimbabwe, the only hope would be to try to convince the world that we need a homeland in Africa much like the Jews have in the Middle East.

This brings me to the next question: Why don’t people fight? The short answer is: We did that, and lost after decades of fierce struggle. Nowhere was the struggle fiercer than in Rhodesia against Mugabe. But we lost. We lost because the Western world never supported us. Both Rhodesia and South Africa in turn had world sanctions applied, and both were treated as pariah nations. The struggle in Rhodesia was extremely fierce and there is nobody I know, who lived there, who does not bear the psychological scars of it. When Mugabe invaded farms in recent years, many Rhodesians, who are now quite old, still began the process of waging a propaganda war against him. They are too old to bear arms, but the hatred for him is deep. Even he conceded that Rhodesians, across the world, played a role in getting the news out about Zimbabwe.

When Rhodesia broke, after years of fierce struggle that served to a large degree to also demoralise South Africans. President F W De Klerk told South Africans that fighting was futile. He said South Africa would fight and lose, like Rhodesia, and still have to live with the enemy. So De Klerk chose to surrender before the fight really got going. Also, white South Africans were never truly told how dangerous the ANC was. Those with military and intelligence backgrounds know the facts, but those facts were largely kept from the public. This has all contributed to turning white South Africa into an amazingly liberal society. Many whites here believe that they must just live quietly, and make the best of things, and the ANC will leave them alone.

The enemy sneaks up on us gradually, like they do in America, and so nobody is overly concerned about going to war. I could respond to those same Americans who ask me “Why don’t you fight” by asking them “Why don’t you fight?” You believe your constitution is now largely a worthless piece of paper, and that everything is being taken from under you by stealth. Yet, your militia are not fighting either. The problem you face is the same problem we conservatives in South Africa face. There are a few staunch conservatives, like me, who are trying to wake people up who are mostly asleep.

It is not an easy task, but we must keep on hammering away. When one is dealing with masses of people one has to wait for the group consciousness to wake up. I am hoping that the events in Zimbabwe will wake whites up here. The events there are causing concern here, and if things were to get worse there, then maybe whites here would wake up.

I do see some hope though. White South Africans became mass converts to liberalism in the early 1990’s due to intense world pressure and their own spineless government. But with each passing day I meet another white person who is turning his back on liberalism. Just last week I was at the dentist. He looked at me and said, “I am a racist”. He went on to tell me how once upon a time he almost voted for the ANC. But now, after watching South Africa become a crime hellhole, and watching what the ANC had done to the country, he was a total convert back to conservatism.

I used to think there was no hope for the world. I used to think Liberalism and Communism had won the day. But now I see the light of conservatism dawning. Here I am speaking my mind frankly on this website. Who would have thought that day would ever come? I certainly did not. But it did. Across the world, at a grassroots level, people are becoming more conservative. I am hoping, waiting and praying that one day, there will be enough of us to take on the left and beat them for once and for all. I can’t wait to join the fight, wherever it may be.
