SubTitle: What Whites in Africa did after they lost

Prior to the year 2000 the world’s Liberals were ever so smug about Zimbabwe and South Africa. They pointed their fingers at us whites in Africa and smugly told us that our worst fears had never been realised. Neither Zimbabwe nor South Africa had collapsed as we had said it would. We looked like fools, and those haughty liberals mocked us. We whites, having lost military and political power were trying to exist under regimes hostile to us, and so we just said nothing.

What I am about to tell you has never, to my knowledge, been written about anywhere.
The blacks here have long suspected it, but no whites have ever come forth to openly talk about how we work against them. Let me tell you the real reason why Zimbabwe lasted as long as it did, and why South Africa and Namibia have not yet collapsed.

The loss of our political and military power did not really change our outlook.
We whites regard ourselves as Westerners and we are believers in capitalism. We generally regard socialism as madness. The new black rulers, being Marxists, were keen to begin socialising the countries as much as they could. They were determined to use their political powers to slowly drive us from the economic front and to get the blacks to replace us.

Mugabe wanted to get rid of white farmers since day one. He started out by buying up 20 white farms and turning them into Soviet-style collective farms. This experiment soon failed – so he could not get rid of white farmers as easily as he hoped. He thus had to slow his land reform program and he had to try other tricks. He made slow progress for 20 years until he became desperate and had to speed things up.

Mugabe tried to make life as difficult for the farmers as he could. He made it illegal for a farmer to fire any of his black workers. Farmers were forced to take all their labour problems to a Political Commissar (a nice old communist term). The Political Commissars made the final decision.

Mugabe increased income tax until it reached horrific levels. He made it difficult for whites to take money out of the country. But whites did not take all these new rules and regulations lying down. Every time he implemented a new rule, they would devise a counter to it. The level to which whites have gone to counter the rules devised to destroy and hobble them financially is the great-untold story of postcolonial Africa. It is because whites were clever and devious and able to hold their own against incredible odds that the whites not only survived, but also often prospered. They were able to be successful in the face of a hostile government out to get them. It is because whites survived and kept their businesses running, that the economies never collapsed.

When Mugabe increased income tax, whites began paying their employees under the table. Half the salary would be taxed. The other half of the salary would be paid under the table. This system kept both the employer and the employee happy.

When Mugabe made it very difficult to move funds out of Zimbabwe, the whites devised creative methods of getting money out. Some types of foreign exchange transactions were allowed, but others were not. Mugabe’s people drew up complex lists of what was allowed and what was not. I know of one business, which specialised in getting funds out of the country. It was familiar with the categories, and would then apply for forex under a category, which it knew, did not exist. Then when the black bureaucrats were confused as to whether to allow this or not, they would phone them and hound them and put pressure on them to grant the forex. Eventually, the blacks, not being sure, would let the transaction go through. An entire book could be written on the methods devised by whites in Zimbabwe to overcome foreign exchange restrictions.

Mugabe is not a complete liar when he says whites are dishonest cheats. We definitely are. But we do so as a matter of necessity and a matter of survival. If it were not for us always engaging in a battle of wits to survive against laws enacted by hostile governments out to get us, we would long ago have ended up on the rubbish heap – and so too would the countries we lived in. Were it not for our cheating then Zimbabwe, South Africa and Namibia would have collapsed a long time ago.

It is no different here in South Africa. Ever since 1994, the African National Congress has been out to get us. They have enacted harsher and harsher tax laws. The tax laws in South Africa are unbelievable. The government forces all banks, stock brokers and employers to send computer data to the receiver of revenue every month of salaries, interest payments, major purchases, etc. They have hired computer experts to build the most intrusive computer system imaginable to monitor everything we do. If we buy a car, or a house, the government knows about it before we have even filled in the tax form. Our tax forms in the future will be only a formality since the government knows about most of our transactions and computers can check us. Fortunately, this massive computer system is not completely in place yet. They have been working on it for years. But with each year the system gets ever tighter. But whites fight back – for their financial survival.

For some years now we have had to disclose our total assets each year with our tax forms. The government then monitors what we disclosed in the past with what we disclosed in the following years in an attempt to determine if we got monies from other undisclosed sources. They will also be implementing a capital gains tax in the future.

Let me illustrate the battle of wits with an example. The government went after highly paid computer professionals. A lot of computer professionals in South Africa were contractors. They hired out their services at hourly rates. They registered Closed Corporations (a special type of small business), which enabled them to write off various personal expenses for business purposes. The government realised this was a loophole, so they set about trying to close it. They said that any Closed Corporation which was only owned by one person who only serviced one client would no longer be considered a business. That person would be considered an employee and be taxed accordingly. Computer professionals devised various workarounds. Some formed Closed Corporations consisting of several members and they took turns billing their different clients, or even billing each other for “work done”. As the laws got tighter, and more loopholes were closed, newer schemes were devised. Eventually someone hit on the idea of forming a “Labour Broker.” The labour broker was one company, which had a considerable number of “employees” (IT professionals), and a myriad of clients. The labour broker then did all the billing of the clients and the paying of “salaries.” It then made all the deductions it could (using every conceivable trick in the book), to reduce the person’s salary as much as possible before the normal tax could be applied.

South Africa’s labour laws are the most horrific in the world. Indeed, it is one of the main reasons cited by Western businesses for not investing in South Africa. As in Zimbabwe, once you employ someone, you struggle to get rid of him or her for valid reasons. The labour laws are slanted so heavily in favour of the employee that labour issues can cost companies huge amounts of money.

Local people however, employ all manner of tricks to escape these laws. Employing a black person full time can result in you being held responsible for a lot more than you bargained for. Even hiring someone to work in the house or in your garden can lead to serious problems. So whites then instead hire blacks for only short periods of time. So a black gardener, for example, may work for one person on Monday, and another on Tuesday, and so forth. One black person may therefore end up working for 5 white employers doing piecemeal work for them, rather than working for one fulltime.

It should be said that the new labour laws have indirectly caused hundreds of thousands of black people to lose jobs, which they had under Apartheid. White people were not prepared for the legal hassles and so most of us changed the way we did things and we make as little use of black unskilled labour as possible.

This happened in Zimbabwe also. Under white rule, a black unskilled labourer could earn say $10 per month (when the average white earned about $300 per month). So Mugabe came and raised the minimum wage to $75. Most whites then fired blacks they did not really need, but whom they had employed because they had minor uses. So countless thousands of blacks lost their jobs and many were never employed again either – ever!! Mugabe’s socialism however caused such inflation that within a few years, $75 per month did not have the buying power of $10 under white rule!

Here in South Africa they are trying to force black empowerment businesses to get niches in established industries. But these black empowerment businesses do not have the same skills the whites have, and so they cannot really survive. Most of them go bankrupt. A friend of mine works for a black empowerment oil company for example. It was owned and controlled by blacks that had little experience in the industry. After making losses for several years, and facing bankruptcy, it was bought out by a much larger white-controlled oil company, which runs it merely so that it can use its losses for tax-write-off purposes and so that it can be shown, on paper at least, that it is complying with government regulations. Blacks and black businesses are thus sought after, not because of what they can do, but just to make up quotas to ensure they do not fall foul of the law.

They are trying very hard to implement racial quota systems in the workplace – no matter how impractical it may be. Big companies must meet the racial quota system requiring 80% of employees to be black at all levels. Extremely heavy fines are imposed if they do not. These rules are only strictly implemented in companies with more than 50 employees. This has caused some privately owned businesses to break themselves down into smaller components of fewer than 50 employees each. Others, on the other hand, have chosen instead not to grow above that level. Others have done away with the concept of employees altogether, and all their employees are contractually hired for one year at a time.

Whenever the government comes out with a new set of laws intended to interfere with the way businesses are run, the white management then hold conferences and brain-storming sessions to try to figure out ways of lessening the effects of socialism on their businesses. This happens all the time, and accountants and legal experts are constantly looking for loopholes and ways of bypassing the socialist control freak legislation, which comes out of our governments.

In this manner, whites have managed to survive, and sometimes even prosper, in conditions, which previously nobody would have thought possible. Were it not for this white creativity, and the ability of whites to keep companies afloat even on the most uneven playing field (where everything favours the blacks), a great number of businesses would have collapsed by now. Even so, at the beginning of 2001, it was announced that South Africa experienced an all-time record bankruptcies.

The greatest achievement of the whites in Zimbabwe has been their ability to survive for so long in the face of a clandestine attack and battle of wits, which lasted 20 years. Even as Mugabe is about to destroy them, they are not totally without hope. Some of them have deliberately run their farms deep into debt, and taken the borrowed money and then bought high-priced assets in the cities or taken the money out of the country. So when Mugabe comes to take their farms he will find himself sitting with farms, which actually belong to the banks. It has been said that the banks will be the biggest losers when Mugabe takes all the farms away.

Let it be said that the whites in Zimbabwe managed to survive against unbelievable odds right to the end. They have shown that in a battle of wits, and of underhanded cunning, they matched Mugabe move for move. Indeed, his only remaining option is to openly run them off the land because he could not break them otherwise.

Similarly, here in South Africa, their best hope is to continue murdering the farmers, and to hope that most whites will leave due to the unbelievably high crime. As with all things, we are constantly fighting back. The high crime rate only spawned lots of security companies and inventions. A few years ago people around the world were aghast to see film footage of an anti-hijack device from South Africa where a car spewed out flames from its side at the push of a button.

It should be said that while many whites feel we are fighting a losing battle, we are remarkably successful at holding out against black dominated Marxist/Socialist governments who use all their legal and political power to try to destroy us.

Here in South Africa, 1,300 white farmers have been murdered since the early 1990’s. Farm attack statistics show that even though the number of farm attacks have doubled in recent years, the number of actual deaths per annum have not doubled. 140 white farmers were murdered in South Africa in politically motivated killings last year. The good news is that were it not for their improving security precautions that number would easily have been double that.

Sometimes we whites succeed admirably where the government fails. Their socialised medicine policies caused countless government hospitals to run out of money and many to be closed permanently. Meanwhile, privately owned white-controlled hospitals prospered.

Our education system is a complete mess. They try to pretend they are educating more blacks but they can only get away with that by allowing a 30% mark to be considered a valid pass rate. Meanwhile, many whites and upper class blacks send their children to private schools where they get a decent education.

Here in South Africa, where white people make up 14% of the population (as compared with Zimbabwe where whites are down from 5% of the population to less than 1%), we still have a lot of clout. We control most of the economic activity in this country. Were it not for our cunning, and our counter-measures, this country’s economy would have collapsed a long time ago. The same is true of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe should have collapsed more than 15 years ago.

It is we racist whites, who could have sabotaged these countries, but are in fact the only factor preventing total collapse. It is white people who never go on strike. It is white people right now in Zimbabwe who are defying the government and who refuse to stop farming. It is our work ethic, and our commitment to our task and our discipline that is keeping things from falling apart completely.

So the next time some smug arrogant liberal tells you that their liberal solutions were a success in Zimbabwe and South Africa, just smile and remember what I told you.
