[I had a good chuckle at an item in the Saturday Star in Johannesburg. It was about a new show in America run by blacks. It is about rap. Blacks invented rap, but the majority of people listening to rap are white. So in an attempt at helping whites move into rap, they’re having a competition on TV to encourage “white talent”.
Take a look at the above headline on the first page of the Saturday Star. Imagine if it had read: “Blacks can’t jump and they can’t sing”. Well, there would have been accusations of racism, threats to stamp out racism – our generally useless president would have said something, etc. Those things would have happened!
But since in this case, whites are the butt of the joke, we all take it in good humour.
I must tell folks in America though, that while the blacks in America are teaching the whites there how to “rap” – let me tell you, that in Africa we teach blacks ballroom dancing!! Yeah! On TV, we have had many programs where black couples or mixed couples do ballroom dancing.
I saw something extremely funny on TV yesterday, but it caught me off guard and I just couldn’t hit the record button on my video tape fast enough. It was a silly competition on TV between a black boy and girl and a white boy and girl. The program was really stupid – but at a point one of the items in the competition was to “compose a FREEDOM SONG”. Well, that caught me off guard… a “freedom song?” Why not just compose any song? Well you know… now that the blacks are “free” they can sing about it… So this little white boy and girl had to come up with their own sort of “rap” type lyrics for their freedom song. What made me laugh was this young white boy suddenly having to imagine freedom in the black context… and he was trying… he was coming up with stuff like “freedom from slavery and Apartheid”… It was too funny because it was so inappropriate for him. But he was trying. He was giving it all he had. I had a good laugh. Of course, whites can’t “sing” according to the black standards and the white boy and girl were beaten on that score.
We could discuss classical music and the discipline thereof as some proof that whites can do musical things to a truly high standard. Plus… whites invented virtually ALL the musical instruments which the blacks use! The blacks aren’t using musical instruments which they invented because they hardly invented anything!!
However, there is another side to this bit of black arrogance about whiteys can’t jump and can’t sing… and it is… that in a round-about way, it is an admission on the part of blacks themselves that it is something that they CAN DO! … in fact the only two things they CAN DO and CAN BOAST ABOUT!!
Think carefully about it… in this politically correct world it is an admission that indeed, these are among the few things blacks can do well!
You will NOT hear them saying: “Whites can’t…
do mathematics…
do engineering…
do science…”
Yeah? You won’t hear that. And those, after all, are the real things that matter and which make nations GREAT! Jan]
