Adelaide – It could have been his poisoned dog or a history of psychological problems that drove an Australian man to attack a South African family, but no one has been able to say for sure what his motive was.
Donato Anthony Corbo, 39, this week in court said he would deny guilt on the murder charges against him.
Rika Mombers, 38, on Friday for the first time broke her silence about her family's nightmare experience.
She and her family used to live in Pretoria and Amanzimtoti but three years ago emigrated due to crime.
Her husband Luc, 41, as well as her father and stepmother, Kobus, 65, and Annatjie Snyman, 66, were shot dead last Friday morning in the Mombers home in Adelaide.
Corbo, their neighbour, apparently shot the front door down and walked from room to room, mowing down the family.
In a video message, Mombers on Friday said her son Marcel, 14, was still recovering in hospital after he was shot.
“Our family will never be the same again, but we have been strengthened by your prayers and support and this gives us strength and the will to go on.”
Australian media reported that Corbo was apparently upset because his dog had been poisoned shortly before the bloodbath and reported that he had a history of emotional problems.
