Maiduguri – Another bomb exploded In London Ciki ward of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, killing a police officer Inspector Luckday Amadi, and injuring many others.

Confirming the incident while briefing journalists, the Borno State commissioner of police Mr. Mike Zuokomor, said the bomb blast which occurred yesterday around 9:30pm, killed an inspector and injured many others, who are currently receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

An eyewitness who does not want his name in print, told our correspondent that the policemen were on rescue mission after two people were shot dead by unknown gunmen, when some people on motorcycle threw a bomb at their vehicle.

The commissioner also called on officers and men of the command to always be on alert so that they may not be caught unawares.

He said the police, who immediately responded to the killing in London Ciki, took the corpses to the UMTH, but on their way back to the scene of the crime a bomb planted on the road exploded killing one police and injuring five others.

The CP added that he had directed his men to stop checking every vehicle on the road except those which look suspicious.

He also warned policemen on duty, especially at road blocks to stop collecting bribes, as anyone found wanting will be severely dealt with.

Zuokumor also asked them to stop forcing people to raise their hands during routine checks, stressing that only people carrying polythene bags and other strange object should be searched.
