Nigeria: Second Bomb Explosion Rocks Abuja

Two bomb explosion have rocked the capital Abuja at the Eve of the New Year celebrations. In one of the explosion explosion that rocked the city of Abuja saw several people injured .

The blast was said to have occurred at or near an army barracks in the capital city. People were seen being carried away after the blast, which hit a beer garden.

A police spokesman said the blast had occurred at the Sani Abacha barracks, and the cause and those responsible yet unknown.

Reports reaching us have also confirmed another explosion at the Dunamis church in Jikowyi

People are shelving going to churches in Abuja as they are not sure that they will not be hit by bombs.

The police is on ground diverting traffic so as to keep people safe.

Rescue operative have commence evacuation of person from the scenes of the blasts.

More reports indicates that about 30 people are feared dead in the explosion which came as preparations heightened across the country to usher in the New Year.

The casualties were mainly fun seekers who had gone to the popular mammy market to relax after the day’s job..

Atiku Abuakar in a statement denounced the bombings in strong terms describing it as “senseless and wicked.”

In the statement Mr Abubakar said he sympathises with innocent military and civilian victims caught in the bombing incident.

The former VP went on to say that the latest bomb targeted at a military establishment is an indication that “President Jonathan cannot provide the type of leadership to secure the nation.’

The president, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has also condemned the attack, and commands the nation’s security services to rise to the occasion and arrest this new and dangerous challenge to our peace and stability.

He said in a statement that there shall be no sacred cows. All, no matter how remotely connected to these incidents, must be brought to justice.

“They must be made to pay. No one, and we repeat, no one, can make this nation ungovernable.’ he said in a statement signed by Ima Niboro.

The statement in part reads

Tonight, evil people determined to turn the joys of fellow Nigerians to ashes detonated a bomb at a barracks market in the Federal Capital City.

Basking in their nefarious success in Jos on Christmas eve, they have once again knifed at the heartstrings of a nation decked out in gaiety, celebrating new year’s eve. This is extreme evil. It is wicked. It defies all that we that we believe in, and stand for as a nation.

The president, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, condemns this attack, and commands the nation’s security services to rise to the occasion and arrest this new and dangerous challenge to our peace and stability.
