All the hype about the by-laws concerning fireworks over the festive season turned out to be a damp squid. It was broadcast on the news that it would not be tolerated if any person sets off fireworks except within the dedicated time of 22h00 until 02h00 on Christmas and New Year's Eve. Well, in the Johannesburg South area, we fall under the jurisdiction of the infamous Booysens police station. The noise started on Thursday afternoon and now even as I am typing this post on Sunday evening, inconsiderate idiots are still shooting off their bombs. The police and the powers that be are incapable or unwilling of policing their by-laws. Our animals are nervous wrecks; my husky will not leave my side for two minutes. Even if I go to the bathroom she sits and cries outside the door.
On Thursday night two doors down from my house, a resident lit an illegal bonfire where they were throwing fireworks into. We phoned emergency services and eventually gave up after almost 25 minutes because the call remained unanswered, we then tried the life threatening number and that remained unanswered as well. In this “wonderful country” your house and that of the neighbour, in fact the whole block could burn down, or if someone was seriously injured they would die unless you took them to one of the filthy state hospitals, where they would die anyway from some weird infection or total lack of care.
How our standard of living has dropped from a “first world” country to that of a banana republic in so short a period of time is absolutely unbelievable and totally unacceptable to say the least. We have to contend with unbearably loud music on a daily basis emanating from the property next door, where there are easy twenty to thirty people living in a small three bedroom house.
There is no absolutely no chance of these “people” uplifting themselves to our standards; we have to adjust our way of life to accept their loud, arrogant and bombastic lifestyles without complaint otherwise you are targeted and your life is made more miserable than it already is.
