Bauchi – Yet to be identified men believed to be hired assassins recently shot and killed a 45 years old Senior Lecturer with the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, Mallam Suleiman Abubakar in continuation of serial killings now going on in Bauchi.
In its reaction, Bauchi State Police Command through the PPRO, Mohammed Barau has confirmed the assassination, promising that the assassins will soon be apprehended as Police has since commenced investigations into the crime, adding however that nobody has been linked to the killing yet as no trace was left behind by the assassins.
The PPRO said, “for now we cannot link his assassination to anybody and so we are not going to limit our investigations, we will use all the clues available to us until we get to the root of the assassination. He was an Examination Officer and this makes it more complicated.”
A anonymous neighbour of the assassinated Lecturer narrated that late Suleiman Abubakar was killed at the entrance of his residence in Federal Low-cost Housing Estate by some people who he said came in an unregistered Honda car at about 9pm while trying to enter his house.
He added that the slained lecturer was in the company of one of his younger brother with whom he just arrived from a journey, saying that though the assassins were six in the car, three of them came out on seeing the car of the late lecturer and opened fire on him shooting him in the stomach and before anybody could come out to his rescue they fled in the car.
The neighbour added that, “when his younger brother came out from the car to open the gate, the assailants seized him and when they discovered that it was the wrong person they went to the car dragged him (Suleiman) out of the car and pumped bullets into his stomach and left, he was rushed to the ATBU Teaching Hospital where he later died.”The Public Relations Department of the University through its Officer,Alhaji Zailani Bappah confirmed the story saying that it came to the University Community as a rude shock because according to him, “Suleiman was an easy going person who minded only his academic business and does not mix easily with people.”Until he was killed Thursday night, Suleiman Abubakar was the Examination officer of the School of Management Technology of the ATBU in the last three years and he joined the services of the University about nine years ago, he was from Borno state where he was said to be nursing political ambition as his people beckoned on him to come back home and represent them in the political arena of the state
