Harare – The Zimbabwe Republic Police is aware that some of its officers engage into corrupt activities and those caught will face the full wrath of the law, a senior officer said last Friday.
Addressing journalists in Harare, police chief staff officer operations Senior Assistant Commissioner Faustino Mazango, described corruption as an invidious cancer that destroys the moral fibre of the nation.
“As the ZRP, we have seen this cancer eating into all aspects of the Zimbabwean way of life and unless we stand up as Zimbabweans, our society will be destroyed beyond redemption. “This generation will be to blame for allowing such decadence,” he said.
Paying special attention to the force, Snr Asst Comm Mazango said they had always been very clear and unequivocal in the manner they approached corrupt practices among members. He said every member was aware of the consequences of engaging in corrupt activities.
“We do not condone corruption in the Zimbabwe Republic Police and those found are prosecuted and discharged. “We continue to see this cancer eating into the good discipline of our officers ranging from traffic officers to even those manning our charge offices,” Snr Asst Comm Mazango said.
He said investigating officers had also been lured and demanded bribes to discharge their duties while others were corrupted to distort the proper application of the law. Snr Asst Comm Mazango said corruption comes in different forms and officers devised various ways to achieve their goals.
“I would like to advise the nation that we are fully aware of these ruses by our members and we are not going to sit idle while the organisation burns and service delivery
