Asaba – Fresh facts emerging from Tuesday’s bank robbery at Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, showed that apart from the robbers carting away over N28 million, they also damaged the police station adjacent to the bank.
Investigations revealed that the rampaging robbers, first overran the police station where they held the officers hostage while the operation lasted, damaging several cars parked in front of the station. Window panes and other structures were also destroyed in the Police station.
State Police Command’s spokesman, Mr. Charles Muka told our reporter yesterday, “actually they (robbers) attacked us, shooting sporadically, damaging cars although I have not gone there to see the extent of damage at the station.”
It was also gathered that the woman who was killed by a stray bullet was a shop owner near the scene of the robbery incident.
Several bank staff and customers wounded in the bloody encounter were seen receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Asaba.
The robbers raided one of the first generation banks armed to the teeth with sophisticated weapons.
