Here are some facts about the Oppenheimers who own Anglo-American which in its day owned most of South Africa. Now under ANC rule Anglo-American is a mere skeleton company, with minor holdings … clearly biding its time in decades to come to one day return to South Africa in a bigger way… but even the capitalists have been extremely wary of the ANC…
Here are 2 things about the Oppenheimers I heard from a very reliable friend.
1) The original founder of the Oppenheimer mining empire was Ernest Oppenheimer. He was a Jew. His son Harry took over from him. Some time during the time Harry took over, the Oppenheimer family converted from Judaism to Christianity. The Oppenheimers are actually members of the Anglican church.
2) Nick Oppenheimer took over from Harry. A friend of mine was a junior officer in the SADF (South African Defence Force) during the time of Apartheid. He told me that he was in the camp when Nick Oppenheimer was called up to do his military service. Nick was your silver-spooned kid of the super-rich… and on weekends the chauffeur would arrive with the Rolls Royce at the fence of the camp. Nick would hand him his clothes to be washed, and would receive his washed and pressed laundry through the fence! It does not matter if Nick Oppenheimer was the “spoilt rich kid”… the simple fact is, that rich kid or not, he did do his national service in the South African army under the Apartheid Govt.
That’s a little something to chew the cud on.
