Three men; namely Ebrima Bah, a native of Kerr Touba in Nuimi; Abdoulie Jeng, a native of Kalagi in Foni residing in Essau and Pa Sakumba Bobb, a native of Barra in Lower Nuimi District, North Bank Region were on the 25th of July arrested by personnel of the Gambia Police Force at Barra for ‘stealing and shop breaking’.
The suspects were found in possession of stolen items such as two laptops, a motorcycle, washing machine, five television sets, three dozens of plastic chairs, three mattresses, two gas bottles, two radio players (tapes), a set of bowls, soaps, body lotion, cooking oil, knives, hammer, jujus, a bag of rice, digital camera, a car battery, three stabilizers, two DVD players, two video players, loudspeakers, and others items.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Inspector Ebrima Bah of the Barra Police Station recalled that two months ago, series of house breaking cases were reported in that area and the police took it upon themselves to trace the culprits. “Since then we made series of patrols and [thorough] searching before we received information that one Pa Sakumba Bobb is selling some stolen items.
The said Pa Sakumba Bobb was being hunted for the past two weeks and all of a sudden we received information about the whereabout of Abdoulie Bah, another suspect. We sent an officer to Kaarang in Senegal to find out where he lives. On Saturday, 25th July the officers met him at Essau-Kerewan junction where he was arrested with some of the stolen materials,” he explained.
He went on: “The investigations continued and some other materials were recovered in Kaarang, Senegal. Abdoulie Bah and Abdoulie Jeng were arrested in Pa Sakumba Bobb’s house in Essau”.He said upon arrival at Pa Sakumba Bobb’s compound they met the suspects ready to carry out another operation.”We found them with all their operating materials around 11pm,” Inspector Bah disclosed.
For his part, Superintendent Sulayman Secka, the police public relations officer, said the suspects will be charged with shop breaking contrary to section 281 Sub-Section (A) of the Criminal Code and stealing contrary to Section 252 of the Criminal Code. PRO Secka urged the general public to be vigilant and help the police in the execution of their duties.
