“Zimbabwe Today” by Robb WJ Ellis (13-06-2010)

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

I have written about Zimbabwe now for over five years and work as an individual. I don’t expect accolades or awards, but I do expect to be recognised as the author if a website chooses to use an article written by myself.

It was with some disgust, therefore, this morning that I fell over another website using my work and the by-line attributed the work to “by Agencies”, based in Johannesburg – and then I noted that the entire article had not been published either.

I note also, that the article heading has been edited…

So, should you read this article, then please know that it was written by myself and the entire thing can be read here

As I fully expected, with the world’s attention on the World Cup being played in South Africa, very few people will be watching events in Zimbabwe, and Mugabe will know this. So it was with no surprise that the following report details some events in Zimbabwe that beggar belief…

Prominent Zimbabwean human rights defender, Farai Maguwu, was last night taken from Harare Remand Prison under orders of notorious Criminal Investigating Department Henry Dowa and removed to Matapi Police Station, sparking fears that Maguwu is being tortured. His lawyers have thus far been denied access to him.

Maguwu’s lawyer, Tino Bere, was today launching an urgent high court application to secure access, explaining that he had reason to fear that Maguwu’s removal from the remand prison was for purposes of torture.

“We prevented Farai’s possible torture or harassment last week by being present at almost all normal times at the police station. We stopped the costly surveillance and visits because normally, once remanded, the police no longer have control or access to the accused.“

As I wrote a couple of days ago: “What this boils down to is that the Zimbabwean authorities are willingly and knowingly withholding information concerning the diamond mines from the Kimberley Process monitor – which, in turn, means that the monitor’s decision to allow Zimbabwe to trade in the disputed diamonds is fundamentally flawed.

The raid and arrest warrant for Maguwu followed closely his meeting with Kimberley Process monitor, Abbey Chikane, a South African businessman undertaking assessment of whether Zimbabee has met the minimum standards of the Kimberley Process, a UN-backed initiative intended to halt illegal trade on diamonds.

Mugabe begged Zuma to invite him to the opening ceremony of the football world cup – and once he had that invitation, he took an entourage of fifty people…

But it would appear that Mugabe’s people were denied entrance…

President Robert Mugabe was yesterday embarrassed and humiliated by 2010 World Cup organisers when a large delegation accompanying him was denied entry into Soccer City stadium for the official opening of the soccer showcase, Zimdiaspora can reveal.

Sources at the Zimbabwean embassy in South Africa told Zimdiaspora that Mugabe was accompanied by a delegation of over 50 people, but organisers barred all of them saying they were not invited and therefore unwelcome.

An official at the embassy said only Mugabe himself, the first lady Grace and foreign affairs minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi were allowed into Soccer City for the Official opening of the World Cup.

“It was a very embarrassing moment as Mugabe's people tried to force themselves into the stadium arguing that they were VIP's by virtue of being part of a Presidential delegation. However, the organisers could have none of that and they were calmly told to leave as they were not invited,” he said.“

Mugabe takes a huge amount of people with him wherever he goes, and they have had their way for so long, all over the globe, that they thought that their ZANU PF type bullying would work. And, it would appear, they met their match.

So – when they couldn’t get into the ceremony, they all ran off to spend their ill-gotten money…

The Embassy Official said soon after being denied entry to the official opening of the World Cup, Mugabe's people rushed to open shopping malls in Sandton to spend the thousands of dollars they were given in travel and subsistence allowances.

“Zimbabwe Embassy staff all over the world are struggling to survive because of inadequate funding but Mugabe prefers to waste taxpayers money by coming along with such a huge delegation of cronies. This is typical of dictators. They only reward relatives and people who keep them in power,” he said.

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and his deputy Professor Arthur Mutambara were also at the official opening of the World Cup, but they both traveled separately with Mugabe. Tsvangirai reportedly traveled with his new found love Locadia Tembo, a local businesswoman.“

Mugabe will be aggrieved at the treatment his people received and, when he gets back to Zimbabwe, he will take his disappointment out on the people in general and the MDC in particular.

Mugabe reportedly won rapturous applause and kudos for having the Brazilian football team come to Harare and play a friendly against the national team. Zimbabwe lost 3-0 to the former world champions.

And we have read reports of how the Brazilian team was paid handsomely for their time, and their hotel bills and transport costs were picked up by the Zimbabwean government – who don’t have a penny to their name…

It now turns out that the national football team of Zimbabwe, the Warriors, were each paid just US$200 for their appearance at the game.

Mugabe wasn’t interested in the Zimbabwean team, but was very interested in the reported US$600000 made on the gates…

Zimbabwe’s Warriors are crying foul after receiving a paltry US$200 for taking part in the high profile international friendly match against Brazil’s Samba Boys, in which the Brazilian team was paid well over a million dollars in appearance fees.

The Warriors have sought audience with ZIFA contending that the money is too little for a match of such high magnitude and the huge sums of money realised from gate entry fees but their appeal for more has not been successful.

ZIFA are understood to have harvested a net of around US$600000 from gate entry fees alone not mentioning television rights.

Some of the Warriors told Radio VOP that they were expecting at least a thousand dollars or a figure near there.

A source at ZIFA revealed that Chief Executive Officer Henrietta Rushwaya told the players that the US$200 was what the association could afford since ZIFA was not in charge of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), a statement that was also confirmed by the Warriors.“

Mugabe may have been given credit for bringing the Brazilian team to play in Harare, but it wasn’t really for the football, but for the money which he and his flunkies could sponge off the proceeds. I cannot believe that Mugabe would allow anyone to make US$600000 from the game and not make some money for his personal riches…

Sadly, we will probably never know the truth.

The Warriors added that they had also been trying to seek clarification from the ZTA but that too had not been successful as they had been referred back to the football controlling body

The team’s vice captain Zvenyika Makonese confirmed the players received the paltry US$200, adding that their request for more had fallen on deaf ears.

Makonese said under normal circumstances the captain and his vice and in this case Benjan Mwaruwari and himself hold discussions with ZIFA with regards to appearance fees and bonuses but this was not the case this time around as officials from ZIFA always claimed to be busy running around organising the match.

The Warriors lost the match 3-0 but had to be content with extra problems after finding themselves without transport to take them back to their hotel after the match.“

Mugabe uses anyone and anything as pawns in his giant chess match – and even goes so far as to have extra players in that game who do not conform to the rules.

I find it both objectionable and incredible that Mugabe is going to stop the plunder of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. The RBZ has been a contradiction in terms for Zimbabweans, whilst Mugabe has used the bank, its accounts and its unilaterally appointed governor to finance all manner of underhanded, illegal and dark deals – whilst at the same time enriching his own fortunes.

President Robert Mugabe is going to intervene to stop the plunder of Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) assets by a syndicate of government officials, including a vice-president and ministers.

High-level insiders within the Office of the President and Cabinet said on Friday Mugabe was going to issue a statutory instrument in terms of the Presidential Powers (Temporary Measures) Act to deal with the issue.

The decision for Mugabe to intervene to stop the pillaging of RBZ assets was taken at a heated cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Insiders said Cabinet resolved that Mugabe must get involved after complaints by senior Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) ministers that RBZ was being stripped of its assets by a clique of ZANU PF government officials through illegal auctions.

“Cabinet took a decision on Tuesday that the auctioning of RBZ assets due to unpaid debts must be stopped because it’s unlawful,” a cabinet minister said. “As a result President Mugabe will issue a statutory instrument to stop the sale of central bank assets, which are public property.“

Hang on! If the RBZ has failed to pay debts, then the normal course of events is for the court to order the sale of assets to raise funds to pay those debts. The problem is that the auctioning of the RBZ property is being sold for next to nothing to the senior ZANU PF personnel.

So why stop the sales? Why not stop the sale to ZANU PF insiders instead?

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe we know has been financing Mugabe’s extravagant lifestyle, so why should its demise be to the benefit of the pro-Mugabe members of government?

And what of the money taken illegally from accounts by Gideon Gono ‘in the national interest’ according to Mugabe? Is there to be no criminal proceedings against the governor – or Mugabe, for that matter?

Fearing the central bank would remain a shell after being stripped of its assets, RBZ authorities had appealed to Mugabe and Minister of Finance Tendai Biti to intervene to stop the plunder.

Biti initially said there were various ways of intervening, including coming up with a Reserve Bank (Debt Restructuring) Act or creating a curator or judicial manager so that creditors could go there to make and prove a claim.

Biti was also thinking of using the State Liabilities Act to bring an end to the looting.

Latest RBZ documents on the auctions of central bank property show that a vice-president and several ministers have bought RBZ assets acting on insider information.

Government is investigating the plundering of RBZ assets, which included cars, buses, generators, tractors, farm equipment, and furniture.“

This is what Mugabe-ites get up to when the attention of the world is elsewhere…

Terror returned to Zimbabwe’s white-owned farms last week when supporters of president Robert Mugabe launched a fresh land grab. That was the claim of the Commercial Farmers Union, representing the remaining 300 white farmers still on their properties. It said a new surge of violence erupted on 16 farms with the looting of crops and equipment.

In eastern Zimbabwe, a black farm foreman was beaten unconscious and a farmer’s wife was barricaded into her homestead and given four hours to leave, the union alleged. It said police had not responded to calls for help.“

Mugabe has a simple modus operandi… out of sight, out of mind. And he is in South Africa, having attended the opening ceremony of the world cup, even though the vast majority of his entourage were not allowed into the spectacle.

So, they rushed off to spend their allowances.

And while Mugabe watches football, and spends three days in South Africa which will probably see him and his wife, Amazing (Dis)Grace, spending mountains of money on luxuries that you and I can only dream about, the people of Zimbabwe are supposed to be content with uninterrupted electricity supply to allow them to watch the football games.

How does a game of football on television feed the hungry, clothe the naked, heal the sick, house the homeless – and, perhaps more important than all, bring political peace to a country presided by a man who is so paranoid that he jumps at his own shadow?

The attacks received scant attention in the international media, where all eyes were turned on Zimbabwe’s neighbour to the south as it counted down to Africa’s first football World Cup. Such is the intense fascination with the competition in South Africa that other African news could find it hard to compete.

I shake my head in sadness for Zimbabweans… everywhere…

Take care.
