“Zimbabwe Today” by Robb WJ Ellis (12-06-2010)

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

DESIDERATA

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
They are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

I would think that are quite a few sores heads today with the hosts South Africa playing out a draw with Mexico yesterday afternoon in the opening game of the World Cup Championship tournament.
As I have said a few times, I am no football fan, but it was hard to not know yesterday’s score as it was all over the television and radio stations…

I did read an article or an email yesterday that suggested that South African President, Jacob Zuma, would try and pinhole Mugabe and Tsvangirai while they are in South Africa to attempt to move the inter-party negotiations along.

Good luck with that as Mugabe will either fly into a rage – or just fly back to Zimbabwe…

Some of those responsible for some of the beatings that the MDC members and supporters received may read a certain poetic justice into this story and may have started to worry for their own lives.

Police Assistant Commissioner Thomson Jangara (54), who was being tried for wife battering allegations, collapsed and died in Harare on Thursday morning.

Police sources revealed Thursday that the controversial police officer, who was awaiting sentence for assaulting and severely injuring his wife, Zvikomborero Paunganwa, collapsed at Tomlison Depot in Harare.

“He had probably come to Harare ahead of his sentence which is due this week,” said the source.

“All we hear is that he just collapsed and died. Whether this had anything to do with the allegations he is facing is all speculation.“

It speaks volumes when someone suggests that his death was perhaps brought on by the allegations he was facing. What I am staggered with is that a senior police officer should have been awaiting sentencing for assaulting his wife – but had this been an MDC activist, the sentence would have been passed and the accused would have been serving time already.

What makes the ZRP so special that they are able to delay justice?

We have an MDC MP, Ian Kay, on US$500 bail for distributing time-expired diet supplements and vitamins, whilst a police member is on US$100 bail – for murder.

Perhaps then, the fate of Jangara is an example of natural attrition…

Jangara was the Officer Commanding Fairbridge Support Unit in Bulawayo.

A known supporter of President Robert Mugabe's ZANU PF party, Jangara masterminded the brutal assault of MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai and civic society leaders in March 2007.

He is among Mugabe's loyalists who were slapped with western sanctions for rights abuses although his name was controversially struck off the blacklist a few months ago.“

Cabinet ministers have clashed over the controversial Chiadzwa diamond mining activities and secret sales of gems by state-run agencies which have only given government a paltry US$800000 despite reaping tens of millions of dollars that cannot be accounted for by the Treasury.

The fight by ministers at a meeting at Munhumatapa Building, Harare, last week brought to the fore the shady diamond mining deals in Marange – from which Treasury could have been prejudiced of millions in hard currency – and accusation of smuggling and theft at the diamond fields.

The fight by ministers at a meeting at Munhumutapa Building, Harare, last week brought to the fore the shady diamond mining deals in Marange – from which Treasury could have been prejudiced of millions in hard currency – and accusations of smuggling and theft at the diamond fields.“

There is no honour among thieves – and remember that it isn’t just the precious stones – it is the land (some of it purchased from the Mugabe government post 1980) and now they are aiming at the foreign owned companies.

Just about the only thing that we can look forward to as ZANU PF fight for space on the diamond front is that someone is bound to start talking to the press about the alleged theft, bullying and human rights abuses in the diamond fields.

Recently the Kimberley Process monitor passed the Zimbabwean government to sell the precious stone, even though it is very apparent that the standards used in the diamond market in Zimbabwe have much to be desired. There is a man on remand in Zimbabwean prisons for allegedly telling State secrets to the monitor.

The trade of diamonds was still allowed by the monitor, although Mugabe’s lot are going after the activist.

If the monitor passed the trade through, then what crime could the man have done by talking to the monitor?

Last week on Tuesday ministers from ZANU PF and MDC-T fiercely clashed at a meeting over the Chiadzwa diamond deals, leaving government badly fractured and divided over the hotly-contested issue.

Sources close to the meeting said the battle over diamonds mainly pitted Finance minister Tendai Biti against his Mines counterpart Obert Mpofu. The sources said others who joined the fray included Co-Home Affairs minister Giles Mutsekwa and Public Works minister Theresa Makone on Biti’s side. Youth minister Saviour Kasukuwere and his Women’s Affairs counterpart Olivia Muchena joined forces in a bid to rescue Mpofu who was under siege from the firebrand head of the Exchequer.

“So intense was the debate over diamonds that Mpofu was forced to go to the restroom (toilet) at least five times during the course of the meeting,” one source said.

“There was war between the ministers over the diamonds issue,” the source said. “Mpofu was fiercely attacked for failing to explain convincingly what was going on at Chiadzwa. There are all sorts of things happening there such as the corrupt allocation of mining contracts, secret sales of diamonds and the failure to declare proceeds and even smuggling. Mpofu was grilled over all this.“

We have to remember that Mpofu is a law unto himself. Defying a recent court order, he had 39 kilograms of diamonds held at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe removed and only returned them when pressure was applied…

There is a lot of confusion over the MDC99 party launch. Party leader Job Sikhala has released a statement over the confusion…

The MDC 99 party has been inundated by calls from the media Zimbabwe masses and the international community over the issue of the party launch status. This follows statements made by our legal counsel in a court of law in defense of MDC 99 leaders.

Please note that this was only a legal jugular meant to shrug off a ‘case’ of political victimization against MDC 99 officials by Mugabe and ZANU PF.

The legal jugular worked well for the party as all our leaders were set free. Therefore the official position is the MDC 99 party was launched on the 8th of May 2010 at Adelaide Acres in Harare.

MDC 99 is saddened by the sensationalisation of the legal statements by ZANU PF propaganda media houses masquerading as state media. The party, having seen overwhelming response will not be deterred from aiming at the final goal of delivering the people out of dictatorship.“

Well, one thing I can say is that Sikhala is learning the hard way about ZANU PF ‘influence’…

ZANU PF, once they get their teeth into something, seldom leave it alone without at least leaving it scarred and scared.

The MDC 99 party wishes to express its profound disappointment in the trading of positions by GNU parties as concerns constitutional matters. Our party position is, it is the ultimate right of the people of Zimbabwe to decide on what they want to be in the constitution.

This must not be governed by anyone, war veterans or party leaders.“

Posturing and protecting is the name of the game in Zimbabwe – and Mugabe doesn’t care who says what or does what – his will and decree is ZANU PF first, foremost and only…

Well, what d’ya know? Mugabe’s people’s misdoings are being found out as the coalition government is audited and the things that are being discovered are quite unreal…

CMED (Pvt) Ltd, a company set up by government to provide transport hire services and procure vehicles on its behalf, is debt-ridden and failing to account for 19 vehicles that have vanished without a trace in Harare, an audit report has said.

A Value for Money Report compiled by the Comptroller and Auditor-General Mildred Chiri says CMED's poor record-keeping practices has seen the company losing track of 19 vehicles in Harare alone.

She says more vehicles could vanish because of poor record-keeping in the company.

In her report, Chiri says: “As a result of poor-record keeping, I was not able to trace the movement of 19 vehicles transferred from head office to Harare province. The 19 vehicles were also not recorded at the provincial office.“

Okay – having reported that 19 vehicles have gone walkabout, I wonder whether Mugabe’s lot or Tsvangirai’s lot will begin a forensic search for them. If it is done by Mugabe’s lot, they either won’t find them, or, when they do get located, ZANU PF will come out with some long story. In all likelihood, they will claim that the vehicles were written-off.

If it is investigated by the MDC, they will find their process obstructed and queered by pro-ZANU PF personnel, and, if the vehicles are recovered, there will, once again, be some cock-and-bull story as to how they got to wherever they are.

I observed with concern that, of the 68 Mahindra vehicles bought, 15 of them were issued without proper procedures having been followed as one could hardly trace them to the user ministry and in addition these vehicles have not been billed since their date of purchase in March 2008.

“The vehicles were entered in the fleet list in March 2008. This, in my opinion, is open to abuse and could even result in the CMED (Pvt) Ltd losing vehicles, as the vehicles cannot be traced to the user ministry due to inadequate recording,” her report said.“

How interesting that the vehicles should be issued in March 2008, right when ZANU PF was applying a lot of illegal and violent pressure on the MDC… No wonder we read about new vehicles being used by ZANU PF that had no registration numbers…

Chiri said the CMED's Chinhoyi provincial office also faces the same problem – poor record keeping – that resulted in the failure to provide vehicle files for 63 light vehicles and 27 heavy vehicles.

The report says further evidence of poor record-keeping was also reflected by the absence of job cards in the vehicles that were presented for inspection.

The fleet list in Mutare is also not complete. Out of 165 vehicles, 76 had no engine numbers, 44 had no chassis number while 34 had no dates when they were bought and their expected year of disposal.“
