I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

Akure – EX-Militants in the Ese- Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State recently went on the rampage in Akpata Community.
In the aftermath, an 18-year-old JSS1 student, Posowei Obiko, was killed while no fewer than 16 other residents were severely wounded from gunshots fired at them over disagreement in the building of a training camp in the community.
The gunmen, who were said to have invaded the community in a commando-manner in seven flying boats with each conveying 13 people, were reportedly led by one prominent chief (names withheld).
And, immediately they descended on the rustic village, they started shooting sporadically and in the process killed the student.
However, the State Police Command said the situation is under control and that efforts were on to restore total peace and normalcy to the troubled Akpata community. The image-maker of the Command, Mr. Adeniran Aremu, told Crime Alert that the police were on top of the situation and that all is now well in the community.
Crime Alert learnt that trouble started when the prominent chief allegedly led his group to the residence of one Chief Segun Couson, who had reportedly rejected the plan of the militant leaders to build the training camp in the community and, beat him and members of his family to stupor.
A petition written by counsel to Chief Couson, Mr. Tunde Semudara, to President Goodluck Jonathan, complained of the anti- amnesty activities of the group and others in Ijaw communities of the state.
The petition was entitled, “Report of anti-amnesty Programme in Ese-Odo Local Government Area in Ondo State (Ijaw Community). Semudara, who said the police were instructed to investigate the matter by the Inspector-General of Police, alleged that the state police claimed that “it was difficult for them to arrest in the riverine area due to the terrain.
It is our belief that the failure of the police to discharge or perform their traditional duty paved way for the men to increase their criminal acts in multiple progression.”
He said the communities’ residents can no longer sleep with their eyes closed, noting that the amnesty programmee was a ruse in the Ese-Odo area of the state. “We are of the opinion that action should be taken promptly to checkmate the lawlessness before it spreads to other riverine communities so that another communal war/clashes will not be provoked”.
It was gathered that sooner had the Police arrested two of the culprits than they were released, an action that made their counsel accuse the Police of taking side in the matter. The counsel maintained that the police ought to have taken the culprits to the Command Headquarters in Akure, for further interrogation rather than releasing them “without bail.”
Semudara urged the Presidency to act immediately by bringing the culprits to book, alleging that the Interim Chairman of the Local Government had shown a nonchalant attitude to the activities of the ex- militants in the area.
“He is not concerned about the illegality or unlawfulness of possession of arms. His paramount concern is to settle the matter traditionally. To us, his reaction is anachronistic”, he stated.
Relatedly, in a Save-Our-Soul letter to the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, through their counsel, the Akpata community complained of the anti-amnesty activities of the two groups. They pleaded with the governor to act promptly so that the amnesty programme is not derailed in the state, by calling leaders of the two groups to order.
But reacting to allegations against the Police, the image- maker, Aremu, denied that the police took side in the matter. He pointed out that when the matter was reported, the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Mogaji Nasarawa, swung into action and directed the police in the area to investigate it, adding that the matter is still being investigated. Meanwhile, the Interim Committee Chairman of Ese-Odo Local Government, Hon. Kennedy Peretei, confirmed the ugly development in the area but noted that everything was being done for peace to return to the community.
Peretei said traditional rulers in the affected communities had been invited to a meeting with the persons involved in a bid to resolve the crisis.
“We are ready to enforce peace in the community and no effort would be spared in achieving permanent peace in the Ese-Odo Council area of this state.”
Meanwhile, palpable tension reigns in the community as the residents now live in fear of further attacks by the gunmen.
