Jos – Two men were yesterday shot dead by the special military task force in Plateau State at Bisichi village in Jos South Local Government Area while trying to launch an attack on the village.
There was heavy fighting in the mining settlement during the January crisis.
Brigadier General Donald Oji speaking on behalf of the task force said the men had invaded the village at about 3:20 am on Sunday and were accosted by the men of the task force who were on patrol in that area.
He said after engaging the invaders in a shoot out, two of them, including a security guard at a company in the area were shot.
He explained that the dead man who led the attack was dressed in an army pull-over and was identified as a security guard.
The military said a locally made revolver, which uses 7.62 mm ammunition just like conventional military weapons, 8 live rounds of special ammunition, a catapult, a torch and a dagger belonging to the attackers were recovered.
He said no arrest had been made but efforts were on track down those who fled.
State Commissioner for Information Mr Gregory Yenlong who confirmed the incident said investigation was on, adding that the victims were security men in an Agro Allied Farm in the area.
Police Public Relations Officer ASP Muhammed Lerama who also confirmed the incident said they were aware of the attack but were yet to have full details.
A witness said the vigilante group in the area noticed some movements in the bush and alerted the security outfit.
“When the security men came, they started exchanging fire with the attackers who were hiding in the bush, ready to launch an attack in the area and in the event two people were killed”, he said.
