President Jacob Zuma says it is not his “duty” to deal with the incident involving a UCT student arrested for allegedly showing his motorcade the middle finger.
He told the parliamentary press gallery association on Tuesday that he had read about Chumami Maxwele’s ordeal and had asked the police, who explained to him what had happened.
“It is not my duty to deal with such issues. The Minister of Police (Nathi Mthethwa) will have to deal with such issues,” he said.
Zuma said Maxwele, who was arrested on De Waal Drive two weeks ago, had apologised. But Maxwele said last week he had not “apologised”.
