A 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly holding a woman hostage and raping her at his flat in Fordsburg, Johannesburg police said on Thursday.
Captain John Maluleke said the woman was on her way home when the man offered her a lift on Wednesday.
“She accepted the lift because she knew the suspect. The suspect then took the woman to his home in Octavia Flats.
“He then raped the woman and held her hostage. The victim managed to contact her mother who called the police,” he said.
“The man surrendered after police talked to him,” said Maluleke.
The man was expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon. – Sapa
