I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

The mother of a young man murdered in the Sizzlers massage parlour massacre says she is “sickened and devastated” by e.tv’s graphic re-enactment of her son’s killing.
Marlene Visser was on Thursday due to formally complain to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa over e.tv’s Tuesday night airing of a 3rd Degree documentary about the 2003 murders of nine men – including her 22-year-old son, Warren – in the Sizzlers massage parlour in Sea Point.
Visser says she is “horrified” that 3rd Degree not only re-enacted the way in which her son and his fellow murder victims were bound, tortured, covered with petrol, stabbed and shot by their killers, Adam Woest and Trevor Thys, but also showed video footage and pictures of the men’s dead bodies.
“I feel like my son and these other men went through absolute hell before they died… but because they died in a so-called gay massage parlour, e.tv seems to think that they don’t deserve dignity in death,” she said on Wednesday.
“The programme showed no respect for them or their families, who are still struggling to cope with what happened.”
Visser, who has revealed that she visited her son’s killers in prison on several occasions, is adamant that the programme was aimed solely at “sensationally digging up” the Sizzlers killings with “no good reason for doing so”.
Speaking to The Star on Wednesday, 3rd Degree anchor and group editor-in-chief Debora Patta defended Tuesday night’s Sizzlers programme as a sensitive and well-executed production that encouraged discussion about “how South Africans deal with trauma”.
“The bulk of the show was about Quentin Taylor (the only person to survive the Sizzlers massacre) and his journey in coming to terms with the trauma he suffered… and we have had some positive responses to Quentin’s story,” she said.
In an email sent to Visser, Patta further stated: “We can’t wish the Sizzlers massacre away – it happened. But we can learn from the likes of Quentin… (about) how to deal with horrific acts of barbarity and still lead wonderful, fulfilling lives.”
Asked why 3rd Degree elected to show the re-enactment of the murders and video and photographic images of the victims’ bodies, Patta answered that the show was “a documentary that needs to show what happened. We don’t believe that we broke any regulations.”
While stressing that she sympathised with Visser and her family, Patta said: “(Visser’s) pain and anger at what happened is not the fault of e.tv.”
Media lawyer Dario Milo on Wednesday said complaints such as the one raised by Visser could be brought under clause 14 of the Broadcasting Complaints Commission Code.
Tuesday night’s episode of 3rd Degree had a PG rating.
