News – South Africa: No cash back for Shaik – readers

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

After Judge Hilary Squires found Schabir Shaik guilty of fraud and corruption, the NPA’s Asset forfeiture Unit ordered to confiscate R34-million from Shaik.

Schabir Shaik has reportedly applied to President Kgaleme Motlanthe for the “reprieve and remission of his confiscated cash”

IOL asked readers: “Should Schabir Shaik be entitled to any interest from his confiscated money?”

Of the 498 people who voted in the poll, 12 percent (61 votes) said “Yes”; 82 percent (409 votes) said “No”; and 6 percent (28 votes) said “Who cares?”

Some reader comments:

  • Graham F: I heard that Assets Fofeiture Unit (?) had agreed to split with Shaik interest on money confiscated from him presumably confiscated because it was obtained illegally. He will get R 5,000,000. If true how can the State allow him to benefit???
  • Don: So does this mean that he’s going to relax a little & go back into a cell where he belongs? Or perhaps that he’ll pay for his holiday in hospital out of his own pocket? Maybe they should add all the time he’s spent in a private hospital onto his sentence & only count the days he’s actually spent inside the prison as time served… The sad thing about the whole Shaik fiasco is that once again it’s being proven that there are different laws that apply if you’ve got money & connections.
  • Richard: In South Africa “crime / corruption pays,” this is why its so rampant, coupled with a Govt. / Justice system that is grossly ineffective and too soft. Shaik is a convicted fraudster and must pay the price. But unfortunately in this country, its the victims that pay the price !
  • Steve: Let me see, if he accepts the interest he commits another lie and should therefore have his sentence extended for contempt of court. In his trial, part of his defence was that he did not charge Zuma interest as it is against his religion to accept interest (Muslim Sharia Law if I remember correcttly)
  • Duncan: Nice point Steve! The other point of course is that it was confiscated because it was gained from criminal activity. Surely any interest will simply add to the value of his criminal dealings and his sentence should be lengthened accordingly?

  • Abed: The interest money should be donated to needy charities by Shaik himself to seek redemption for his wrongdoings and gain points for life hereafter.
  • TDK: if Schabir Shaik can do such a request then all the shoplifters and burglars who are in jail, can claim back all the goodies they have stolen, when they are released from jail. All this makes no sense to me!
