A security guard was shot dead during an armed robbery at a pre-school in Parkmore on Thursday, Johannesburg police said.
“Two armed men approached the guard at the front gate of the Park on Fourth pre-primary at 7am this morning,” said Inspector Moses Maphakela.
He said the men threatened the guard and asked him to point them in the direction of the principal’s office.
“They went into the office and held the female principal at gunpoint… They then took her laptop and handbag, and left.”
He said minutes after they left the office, a few gunshots were heard. The teachers, who were in their classrooms and not aware of the robbery, ran outside.
“They found the guard shot in the chest and the men running down the road… Paramedics were called, but could not save the guard’s life and he died at the scene.’
The principal was not harmed.
A case of business robbery and murder was opened, Maphakela said. – Sapa
