Seven sleeping family members died in a fire that razed their Dealesville shack on Sunday, Free State provincial police commissioner Amon Mashigo said.
The tragedy occurred about 1am.
“It is not yet known what could have caused the fire, but it is suspected that the family slept while a candle was burning,” Mashigo said.
An in-depth investigation would be launched.
“Amongst those who burned in a shack are a 9-month-old baby, Lehlohonolo Wittes, 2-year-old Sindiswa Wittes, 19-year-old Puleng Wittes, 37-year-old Mantwa Wittes, 42-year-old Mirriam Wittes, 48-year-old James Wittes and 69-year-old Daniel Wittes.” – Sapa
