News – World: The A-Z of the White House race

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

Washington – From A to Z the 2008 White House has been a gripping roller coaster ride. Here is a lexical walk through some of the campaign’s most memorable or oddball moments.

A is for Ayers

Bill Ayers is a former radical of a domestic 1960s terror group known as the Weathermen. Now a professor of education at the University of Illinois-Chicago, he served with Barack Obama on a foundation in the 1990s. That association triggered a Republican accusation that Obama was “palling around with terrorists.”

B is for Bristol

Bristol Palin, 17, the oldest daughter of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, caused a scandal when it was revealed she was pregnant and unmarried just days after the conservative, devout Christian Alaska governor was picked by John McCain as his running-mate.

C is for Clinton

Both of them. Hillary gave Obama a tough primary fight in her quest to be America’s first woman president, and then graciously ceded to him in a named ballot at the party convention. Bill, the Democrats only two-term president, took his time to warm to Obama, but has been out on the campaign trail for him.

D is for Dude

Palin’s snowmobile champion husband, Todd, has been dubbed Alaska’s “First Dude.”

E is for Experience

One of the central themes of the campaign race on both sides has been the experience of both Obama and Palin and whether they are ready for the nation’s highest offices.

F is for Tina Fey

The Saturday Night Live comedian who bears an uncanny resemblance to Palin and has mimicked her to perfection, sending the show’s audience ratings soaring.

G is for George Bush

Bush, now one of the most unpopular presidents in US history, has kept discreetly out of sight in the 21-month race, as McCain has sought to distance himself from Obama’s accusations that electing the Arizona Republican would represent four more years of Bush policies.

H is for Hussein

Hussein is the middle name of the Democratic candidate and has been often stressed by some Republican observers in a bid to highlight Obama’s differences.

I is for Iran

One of the main issues of dispute in the campaign. Republicans accuse Obama of wanting to sit down and talk with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad without pre-conditions. While McCain was caught singing “Bomb, bomb” Iran to the Beach Boys song “Barbara Ann.”

J is for Joe the Plumber

Joe Wurzelbacher, a plumber from Ohio, was unwittingly thrust into the furious White House race when he challenged Obama on his tax plans. He immediately became a darling of the Republicans, as McCain held him up as a symbol of the small businessman threatened by the Democrats.

K is for Kenya

The birthplace of Obama’s father, and also the home country of a Kenyan witch-hunter who blessed Palin in a ceremony at her church in 2005.

L is for Lehman Brothers

The collapse of the huge bank on September 15 helped ignite the global financial crisis, and embarrassed McCain who had said the fundamentals of the US economy were strong.

M is for Maverick

McCain and his running mate have presented themselves as a team of mavericks who will shake up Washington and its corrupt ways.

N is for Negative

Both sides have accused the other of running negative campaigns.

O is for Oil

The Republicans insistence on weaning America off foreign oil and prompting offshore drilling, sparked one of the most bizarre campaign slogans adopted by Palin “Drill Baby Drill.”

P is for Paris Hilton

A McCain campaign ad accused Obama of being “the biggest celebrity in the world, but is he ready to lead.” It flashed pictures of superstars like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears over pictures of a huge Obama rally in Berlin.

Q is for Quinnipiac

The Quinnipiac University in northeast Connecticut which has published keenly watched updated polls. They were first to put Obama back on top in September after he was tied with McCain following the conventions.

R is for Rothschild, and Rednecks

After dramatically coming out for McCain, former Democrat Lynn Forrester de Rothschild slipped when she said Obama had denigrated “rednecks” in small towns. He had not. Meanwhile, a group “Rednecks for Obama” has been trying to win over like-minded folk for the Illinois senator.

S is for Superdelegate

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama had to battle for the support of superdelegates, top party officials who can vote for who they like to be the presidential nominee, as the Democratic primary race went down the wire.

T is for Troopergate

The scandal which has surrounded Palin since her pick, and in which she was found guilty of abusing her powers as Alaska governor in the firing of her former brother-in-law, a state trooper, involved in a nasty divorce with her sister.

U is for USA

Another of the shouts heard on the Republican campaign trail “U, S, A.”

V is for Vietnam

The country where McCain was shot down, and imprisoned for more than five years in the infamous Hanoi Hilton. The experience shaped his world view. “Country First” is his campaign slogan and he has vowed to always fight for the United States.

W is for Wright

Jeremiah Wright is Obama’s former pastor. He surfaced early in the primary race caught on video saying that the September 11 attacks were brought on by American “terrorism” and that African-Americans should sing “God Damn America” to protest their treatment.

X is the X-factor

What the effect will be in the privacy of the ballot box of racism, and the country’s decades of bitter racial divisions. In some past votes it is believed that people told the pollsters they would vote for a black candidate, but then couldn’t do it once in the ballot box.

Y is “Yes we can”

The campaign slogan of Obama, which was set to music by the Black-Eyed Peas will.i.am and became an instant YouTube hit.

Z is for ground Zero

In a rare moment of unity, the two candidates together remembered those killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks at a ceremony on the site where the World Trade Centre once stood. – Sapa-AFP
